Subject: WORLD WAR I SERVICE

Comments: Hi,
I have had very little luck with the National Archives due to a fire in 1973 which destroyed much of the personnel records for Army service in World War I. Do your sources show anything for Nicola Derosa, PFC, Company M, 38th Infantry Regiment, 6th Infantry Brigade, 3rd Infantry Division, 1917-1919? If you require a search fee just let me know the amount.
Thank you very much

Subject: Information about Adolph Carlson

Comments: I am looking for information on my Great Uncle, Adolph Carlson. He was originally from Tonstad, Norway. He was at Camp Pike during WW1. He may have applied for Naturalization during this time. He tended the mules, and was injured in the leg by a kick from one of the mules. He spent many years in hospitals due to his wound. He died in 1928 and it was noted that he died of complications from Anthrax. I would welcome any more information about him and his service record. Thank you in advance.

Subject: Dick Dean Palmer

Comments: Comments: My father, Dick Dean Palmer, served in the 3div. in WW1. He is now deceased. I would like to obtain his service record information, could you give me an address etc. where I might obtain this info? He was in Battery B 10th Field Artillery all through out the American involvement in WW1. Was awarded the Purple Heart, Bronze Star, Silver Star, French Croix de Guerre and as I understand was recommended for the DSC which he didn’t receive due to the war ending on Nov. 11.

He and a Pfc Ravenscroft volunteered as runners for the Headquarters Company when most of the communications were taken out and the vast majority of the runner killed or wounded. They were reported missing in action and next of kin notified. When the returned to the Battery on 15 July my father wrote home to inform them he was alright but the letter never arrived in Wheatland, WY. Until late October. What I would really like to find are the citations for his various medals. He and Pfc Ravenscroft are mentioned in a 3rd Div. history book from WW1 that I have but nothing on awards etc.

Subject: STAN GLANCY, died June 11, 1944 overseas, WWII.
I apologize in advance if this is a simple or dumb question, but I am not sure how else to go about my search.

My grandfather, Stan Glancy, died on June 11, 1944 in WWII. I know where he is now buried in OH and I have found his military death record and serial number record online. My mother's family, however, lost all contact with her father's side of the family after he died and I have no idea what unit he fought with or part of. I know he trained in Georgia. But I can't figure out what company or unit he was with. If there is a way you can direct me to finding this out, I'd be very appreciative. I'd love to read about the people he fought with or near and what battles his peers were part of. I would, of course, love to be able to possibly even talk to someone who might have known him, although I know this is a slim hope.

Below is the information I have on my grandfather:

Stanley J. Glancy, private
Serial number 35119937
died June 11, 1944

Army Serial Number Records can be found at http://aad.archives.gov/aad/record-detail.jsp?dt=893&rid=5483671

I do not know who his parents are or where they are from. I do believe that his brother, Carl, was in the air force, but I know nothing else about him.
Thanks in advance for any assistance you may provide in setting me on the right path to finding out more about my grandfather.
Sincerely,
Jeff Gentile (Oregon)

Comments: I'm looking for some information on my late father, William Andrews. He did not speak much about his 1994 tour in Europe while he was alive. Apparently his records were among those destroyed in the fire that wiped out many veterans records. The information i have is scattered, and some is not clear. Any help on where to go would be great help! Here's what I know:
- Originally from New York, he was commissioned as Lt. at Fort Davis, NC in Aug, 1943.
- Assigned to Camp Stewart in Sept/Oct 1943. Family story was that he was known for organizing a camp softball team.
- Served in AAA brigade in Europe (possibly the 56th, but not sure that is correct)
- At some point achieved rank of Capt. Any direction/information would be of great help! Thank you.

Subject: My Father, James I Lavelle

Comments: Sirs,
My Father James I Lavelle Private First Class 33 269 806, served in the Second Battalion, 30th Infantry Regiment, of the Third Infantry Division, during the second world war. I know that he was in North Africa, landing on 8 November 1942 at Fedala. He was in the Tunisian, Sicilian, and Italian Campaigns (he assisted the Chaplains). In July 1944 he was transferred to Division Headquarters as assistant to the Division Chaplain. My father landed early on D-Day in Southern France, and he was in Central Europe. I know that he won the Bronze Star, he did his duty cheerfully. My Father came back to Pittsburgh, after the war worked for the Fire Department, (rose in rank to be a Fire Captain) married my Mother in 1951,had two boys my Brother and my self, and he passed away in August 1963.These are the things I know, but he passed away before i could know him or his life. Does anyone remember my father and could you tell me more about him, I know a few things from my mom who passed in 1994! , but not a lot. I would think his 3rd ID buddy would know some things. I wish I had done this some time ago I have now lived longer than my father that started me thinking about this. Sorry to be so long winded, I hope someone can give me a few answers.

Comments: Problem: My discharge paper has a difficulty with mine. The item is that it shows that of all the battles & campaign is one is wrong. It shows me as Southern France. Period with nothing else. Nothing about the Southern France assault landing. I was on a LCI with a bunch of riflemen with me ( a medic) and it doesn't say anything about the Assault Landing on August 15th 1945,on Yellow Beach, on the second wave. Could you let me know the 3rd division unit has the the unit organization identified to the group of us who were on that LCI like inf. regt, battalion, company, etc, etc. would should help me to get my award for that with the assault ribbon and the arrowhead.
