Subject: Back Copies of Front Line Newspaper??

Comments: Hi!
I am trying to research the activities of the division in the occupation of Germany from late Summer 1945 through the following year. I am in particular looking for back copies of the 3rd ID unit newspaper, the Front Line. By any chance, do you have any copies or if not, can you direct me towards someone who may have maintained a full collection?

Comments: My father was in the Navy SeaBees attached to a Marine division in WWII in the Pacific Theater. I want to know more about what he did, his rank when discharged in 1944 or early 1945. He spent nine months in the Navy Hospital in San Diego before being discharged and sent home to Fayetteville, NC, or possibly to Asheville, NC. He died when I was young from war related disabilities. I didn't have a chance to find out what his rank was, whether he receive the Purple Heart, or any other honors. I have the flag from his casket. I would like to know his rank so I can put it in a frame w/the correct rank. State side he was an M.P., but what his rank at discharge was, I don't know. Any help in searching for information on him would be greatly appreciated.

Subject: 41st Field Artillery Battalion, Korean War

Comments: Sirs;

In researching for my book " U. S. Army Field Artillery Battalions, Korean War" I have run into some problems regarding the actions of the 41st FA. The 3rd Division history states "The 3rd Infantry Divisions situation became even worse when within days of the Korean War’s beginning, a battalion from both the 7th Infantry Regiment and the 15th Infantry Regiment were taken from the division and sent to Korea to become part of the 1st Cavalry Division as was the division’s 73rd Tank Battalion and 41st Field Artillery Battalion." In August 1950, three provisional firing batteries arrive in Korea and provided the third firing battery (Battery C for the 61st, 77th, and 82nd FA battalions of the 1sr Cav Div). Could this be what happened to the 41st FA? The only other reference I have to the 41st in Korea is its relief from the 3rd Div 6 April 1951. Any help regarding this matter would be appreciated/

This is how to Request Military Service Records or Prove Military Service

The National Personnel Records Center is working to make it easier for veterans with computers and Internet access to get copies of documents from their military files. Military veterans and the next of kin of deceased former military members may now use a new online military personnel records system to request documents, including Discharge Documents DD 214.

Because the requester will be asked to supply all information essential for NPRC to process the request, delays that normally occur will be minimized. The new web-based application was designed to provide better service on these requests by eliminating the records center's mailroom processing time.
Former military personnel and their dependents can get more information at the National Archives website. Military personnel records can be used for proving military service, or as a valuable tool in genealogical research. Most veterans and their next-of-kin can obtain free copies of their DD Form 214 (Report of Separation) and other military and medical records several ways:

Comments: My Dad served in the 276th combat engineers in WWII between 1940-1942. My son and I are trying to put some stories and articles together for him for his Birthday. If anyone has any that they would like to share, we would be very grateful. Also, there is a patch that was on his uniform. He can not remember exactly what the patch looks like, and you can only see a small part of it. I have tried to look it up but have been unsuccessful. I looks like it is a triangle shape, but at the top the middle comes to a point. Unfortunately I don't have any way to post what I think it looks like, and I know that this is a long shot. But if anyone has any idea of what kind of patch it may be - please let me know. You can email any replies to Lasonda2@yahoo.com .
Thank You. And Thank You to all the Veterans who have ever served our Country, You guys are the ultimate.

His name was Robert Ulrich (or Alrich, Ohlrich, Ollrich or some sound like that). His age at this time about 21 – 25, so he must born in 1929 - 1934, white, red blond hair, ride a motorbike, athletic figure, was a boxer and he was very helpful. I just want to see this guy and want to say THANK YOU in the name of my family...... or maybe I could help him right now.

Subject: My Grandfather

Comments: Hello I am SSG Cory M. Bell currently at Ft Polk LA. I was wondering if there was any way you would happen to have any information on my grandfather. He served with the 3rd ID during WWII. I want to say he was with K company but not 100% sure. I have all his awards and decorations in a shadow box on my wall to include his military ID. He was awarded a Silver Star, Bronze Star and 5 purple hearts, those were what he was most proud of. He used to tell me he remembered Audie Murphy getting his medal of honor, i understood it that he was at the same ceremony. I also have a French Army Croix, he had a plaque made and it says De Guerre with Palm. I know he had a battle field commission to LT. Any other information that you may have about him or be able to tell me where to look would be greatly appreciated. I look forward to hearing back from you. Thanks for your time and consideration.
SSG Bell, Cory M.
All The Way, Airborne

CORRECTION
He was in the 7th Infantry Regiment not 15th.

In the book, "History of the Third Infantry Division in World War II, by Donald Taggart, your grandfather, John H. Soule, Jr. is identified as a member of K Company 7th Infantry Regiment. It lists the award of the Bronze Star Medal , Italy, November 19, 1943 as a T/Sgt. In the final company roster he is listed as a 1st Lt.

Subject: Records from World War I

Comments: I am trying to attain the military records and unit photos of my father, Carl Dortch, PFC, Co H, 38th Infantry Regiment. He deployed to France with the AEF from Camp Hancock, GA in 1917 and fought with the 38th during its deployment at the 2nd Battle of the Marne.
