Subject: My Uncle Joseph (Joe) Conlin Ultimate Sacrifice in WWII

Comments: My Uncle Joe (Joseph Conlin) was killed in the battle of the bulge. My father and my other Uncle have limited information. He was in the 254th Infantry Regiment. He was reported missing on Jan. 23rd, 1945 near Beblenheim we think. I was also told that he was honored with the Bronze metal. His body was not recovered immediately and due my Grandfather's anguish a body was returned but my father and uncle are skeptical concerning it's authenticity. He was a sniper and reportedly was trying to wipe out a German machine gun nest.

Any help on how I can get more info would be appreciated.

Subject: Thunder Run 5 April 2003 diorama

Greetings Society of the Third Infantry Division!

I am Agustin Tomas C. Tria Tirona, a member of the International Plastic Modelers Society-Philippines. I led a group of people in building a 16 foot by 4 foot diorama of the 5 April 2003 diorama for this year's 6th Nationals held in Metro Manila, Philippines. The diorama was in honor of the men and women of the 3rd ID who fought during OIF.

I would like to share some pictures of the diorama to you. :-) Below are links to the photographs.

Subject: My Grandfather and Great Uncle: Both from England

Comments: I am looking for information on my Grandfather, John "Jack" Reed, AKA Jackie Reed. I know that he was a part of the Royal Corps of Signals - Durham Light Infantry during WWII. He was in France in about 1942-43. I have been told that he entered Germany at the end and was part of liberation of one of the camps.
I would also like information on a Great-Uncle, William Lawton or Billy Lawton. He was in the Royal Air Force. All I've been told was that his plane was shot down over Germany and he was taken prisoner and killed while being moved to a POW camp by friendly fire, as the Germans had dressed English soldiers in German uniforms.
Thanks for any help anyone can give me.

His regiment numbers are as follows:

Thank you and please get in contact if you have came across these medals or know of someone who has them. Or just for general advice on where I can search.

Comments: Every year at this time I write a testimony to my Dad, Edward J. Ryan who died Feb. 1, 2003. He was a veteran of WWII, a disabled veteran (Anzio). He lost his left arm and most of right hand. He went on to marry my mom, Carol Crane Ryan who died Nov. 12, 2004. They raised 4 children in Basking Ridge, NJ. Everything I am today is a testimony to their lives; the fact that neither one of them ever said, "that can't be done". My father was in the 3rd Division, 7th Regiment, Company E (I may not have written that correctly but that's what I have written down). If you know my dad please feel free to contact me.

Comments: My Great uncle, Roland Krause, recently passed away. I was trying to research information on his Bronze star, possibly Silver star. He along with a small group of infantry man were responsible for the capture of a German battalion, around 200 of them. This supposedly too place on the night of May 2, 1945, in Farchand, Germany. From a small clipping, it stated there were 12 Americans and a quarter-ton truck w/ a mounted machinegun that cam upon the enemy and convinced them to surrender without a fight. There were several officers attempting to escape in a vehicle, my uncle chased them down and they surrendered as well. I'm just looking for more information regarding this war story form an official perspective.

Comments: I am a college student currently doing research for a documentary proposal on my grandfather's cousin, a member of the third Infantry Division. In April 1945, Private Joseph F. Merrell of the Third Infantry Division, died in combat near Lohe, Germany. He was posthumously awarded The Congressional Medal Of Honor for his actions in defending his fellow soldiers. It will be a short film documenting his life and what he gave in defense of his country. I have contacted his descendants for information, but am also interested in perhaps locating people from his unit who are surviving in order to possibly interview them for the film. Subject: Family of deceased US soldier Alton H. REISHUS, North Dakota

Comments: I have a Dutch friend whose daughters have adopted the gravestone of Cpl Alton H. REISHUS from North Dakota who was killed in Germany on Mar 5, 1945. He is buried in the Margraten military cemetery and his data shows he was a Corporal, 102 Quartermaster Co, 102 Division, USA. The family maintaining the grave and cleaning the headstone would very much like to track down any survivors of the REISHUS family in order to learn a bit more about Alton and update them on the grave condition.
Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Comments: My brother and I will be going to Palermo (Sicily) Italy at the end of January of 2009. We can remember our dad talking about landing in this area during World War II. We would like to get some information about this landing so we can visit the landing site. His name was Charles Edward Riffle and his rank at the time of his discharge was Staff Sergeant. Thank you very much for any help you may lend. It would be very special visit this site. We are both so proud of our dad and his service to our country. He spoke so highly of the 3rd Division and was so proud to be a part of that Division.
