Subject: Audie Murphy, hometown display MOH
Comments: I recently initiated a US Army, Display Medal of Honor set
for Audie Murphy's hometown (library) during WW2, Farmersville, TX.
To meet the US Army's Display MOH requirements their city (City
Secretary; Mayor Mr Hein, manager) wrote me if I know anyone who
would contribute a locked display case (shatterproof) and alarm
(library) for their public library? The small town is unable to fund
this.
Audie Murphy Day is held annually there and falls on his birthday,
6/20/09, Sat.
Others places have Display MOH's for Murphy except his hometown,
including the Dallas Scottish Rite Museum.

Subject: 41st Field Artillery Unit History
Comments: Regarding Webmasters comments for Request 4912. Thank you
very much for your response.
I have the book "History of the Third Infantry Division" and have
read the history of the 41st Field Artillery. However what I am
looking for is a unit history specifically written about the 41st
and its accomplishments during WWII. A detailed history. So if
anyone knows of a unit history or someone I can contact I would
appreciate it very much. My father was a Forward Observer in Battery
A of the 41st Field Artillery. They received a Presidential Unit
Citation, but what did they do to receive it and where did they
receive it? The book "History of the Third Infantry Division"
doesn't say. Also did they as a battalion receive any other
citations, ribbons and medals? What was their role after the war
ended? Were they did they stay in Europe long enough to be
considered occupational troops? How did they get home?
Thank you. |

Subject: WWI 30th Infantry Regiment... Milton Slater... Peetz, CO
Hi: I'm trying to find information on a distant uncle of mine,
Milton Albert Slater, whose WWI registration card (from Peetz, CO)
I've attached here. I've also found an online record noting the
following:
Given Name: Milton A.
Surname: Slater
Rank: Private 1st Cl.
Branch: Infantry
Place: Peetz
Roster of Men and Women Who Served in The World War From Colorado
1917-1918
Logan County
Family story is that he was blind (later?) due to exposure to gases
used in the war. I haven't been able to find him in the 1920 or 1930
census records but we know he was alive until at least 1936 - and
probably many years beyond this. Any recommendation on where else to
look for information? I've also attached a picture of Milton in
uniform... I suspect he was in the 30th Infantry Regiment, but I
don't know for sure and I don't how to verify. Any response or
direction would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks and regards,
Bob Bellamy |
