Subject: Jesse Hawkins, 15th Inf., 3rd Div., KIA Aug. 2, 1943

Comments: My brother, PFC Jesse Hawkins' records were destroyed in fire at Military Records Center in St. Louis, MO. He was a jeep driver (I think in a Cannon Co.) because he pulled cannons behind his jeep. He had a good buddy in his outfit by name of (Gene?) Pinto who was also a jeep driver and might have been from Calif. Jesse is buried in the American Cemetery, Florence, Italy.
I was quite young when my brother was killed but I understand he died in Sicily, Aug. 2, 1943. Any information anyone can provide regarding the 3rd ID fighting 2 Aug 43 or before and information in connection with PFC Jesse Hawkins would be greatly appreciated.

I would like to know where he fought and what military actions he was involved in. I know he was wounded in action on March 16th, 1945. I also know he was missing in action for about 3 weeks. He earned a Bronze Star, a Purple Heart, Good Conduct Medal, Presidential Unit Citation, and he was a Sharpshooter. I would like to know how he earned this medals. He didn't talk about the war much. I am trying to find out as much as I can, not only for myself but also for my dad whose health is beginning to fail.

Subject: SFC (T) Thomas White, Medic

Comments: My father in law served with the 7th Infantry Regiment, 3d Infantry Division during the Korean War. On March 31, 1951 he was hit by shrapnel in his right hand. In August of that year he received a Purple Heart and a Bronze Star. My father in law passed away before I met his daughter. I was looking at the medals my mother in law has at her house and noticed the bronze star. She had no idea what a bronze star was. I told her that it was a significant medal. Apparently her husband didn't talk about Korea much. I contacted the National Personnel Records Center hoping to get a copy of the order telling what he had done to get the Bronze Star. I got a letter back saying most of the records from that period had been destroyed by a fire. Did anyone know Tom White? Do you know what he did to get a Bronze Star? Is there anywhere that the records of the 3d Infantry Division are kept that I can contact to see if they have the paperwork on this medal?
Thanks!! RLT!

Comments: My father served in WWII in the 30th. He was captured 12/15/44. His records were lost in the fire at the archives. I have been searching the web trying to find a site that may have a roster listing soldiers assigned to the 30th. I know he was shipped to Anzio as a reserve prior to the break out. He was captured in France and transported to Stalag VIIA. He did not speak much about the service. I have been trying to fill in the pieces.

Comments: I was in A Btry, 3rd AAA AW BN (SP)in North Korea from near the end of Nov thru 24 Dec 1950. I dimly remember Task Force Dog and I think we were part of some Regimental Combat team at one time. I am trying to compile some of A Btry unit history and battalion history but I do not remember any dates or places that we were during that period. I have hazy recollections of some of our actions during Nov & Dec of 1950 but nothing specific. I am hoping to learn of specific actions of my unit during Nov & Dec 1950. All the research I can find only mentions Marines, 7th Div and a few other outfits but NOTHING about A Btry 3rd AAA AW BN and I know we were in the Wonson, Hungnam and Yalu River area during that time. The Marines I did see were pretty shot up and I don't remember seeing any at all in the area after 10 Dec 1950. We played tag with the Chinese right up thru Christmas eve 1950 but I can find NO mention of that. We boarded an LST about 10:00 PM 24 Dec 1950. I would appreciate any input about my outfit that can be furnished for that period.

Subject: WW II Battery A 39th Field Artillery Battalion

My brother, Tech 4 Nelson E Poyfair served in WW2 in the 3rd Infantry Division, Battery A 39th Field Artillery Battalion from April, 1943 to December, 1945. I am looking for any information on his unit. According to history I've read, the 39th earned 10 campaign streamers. I can't seem to locate what these streamers are, or any other information about their WW 2 experience.
I have about 100 photographs of soldiers and/or places and nearly all of them are unidentified. I would love to be able to know where these places are and as many of the names of the soldiers as possible. Perhaps I have photos of a soldier that the family would love to have.
Is there a list somewhere of the soldiers in his unit at that time? I would very much appreciate any help that you might be able to give me.
Thanks so much...
Sandra Sweet

Comments: Hi, I'm looking for information, pictures if possible about my father, James A. Gregory. He served with the 3rd ID in WW2. His discharge papers say that he was assigned to Co L, 7th regiment. He entered into svc on 12 Mar 1943, and was wounded on or about May 23, 1944 near Anzio. The only other info I have is that he may have been part of a Machine gun squad.
Dad passed away sometime ago in 1978 at 55.

Comments: Artell was my Uncle, I was only 6 yrs when he came home in 1946, he was just stopping on his way to the Walter Reed Hosp from a head injury from combat in Germany, I remember his head was hurting so bad he was taken to a local hosp where he never woke up from surgery, his duffle bag was stolen on the train which had all information on his war experience.
A few yrs ago I wrote the Dept of Military affairs, it wasn't long that we received a box with 5 metals one was the silver star, but nothing on his reason for receiving them, actually we know nothing about his record, maybe your resources could help us. He was drafted in 1941 and was still on active duty when he died in 1946.

Subject: Craig or Greg Smith from Larson or Harvey Barracks - 1972

Comments: I am looking for an old friend, Craig Smith, that was stationed at either Larson or Harvey Barracks, back in 1972. He was going with the barmaid from the old Scotch Club in Tauberbishofsheim. Her name was Dagmar. I have no idea what MOS or what unit he belonged. From what I remember, Mr Smith was a drug dealer or user and I believe he came originally from Colorado. Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Would also like to hear from anyone who used to go to the old Scotch Club in Tauberbishofsheim or Miltenberg. I worked at both.
