Jan Bos
email:  circle82@wishmail.net

Dear friends,
Checking my files on the 82nd Airborne Division, I came across the following "Award of Silver Star". It deals with Private Theodore Bachenheimer, ASN 19063269, 504th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 82nd Airborne Division. Obviously his unit was supporting the 3rd Infantry Division and went on a patrol behind enemy lines. I do not know the location, nor the date. I do not know if he was leading a patrol of paratroopers of the 82nd Airborne Division, or that he was leading a patrol of infantrymen of the 3rd Infantry Division. I would very much to learn more about Ted Bachenheimer, not only for myself, but also for his family, with whom I have contact. Unfortunately I cannot ask him personally, because Ted was taken prisoner and tried to escape. he was shot and killed behind enemy lines in Holland, where the 82nd Airborne Division was involved in liberating my home town during the so-called operation Market Garden, which started on 17 September 1944.
Hope that this request can be placed in one of the coming issues of the "Watch on the Rhine", maybe someone remembers him. Ted must have been in the 3rd Infantry Divisional area, since the awar was written by Colonel Charles E. Johnson, Chief of Staff

The records in St Louis were burned in a fire in July 1979 so I am trying to find any information on his service during the Korean War. During WWII he had been a waist gunner on a B-24 and was in 6 major battles in the European and African campaigns.

Request: Were you with the Company L, 2nd Battalion, 15th Infantry in Southern France August 27th 1944? If so, do you remember  fighting for a small town outside of Montelimar called "Allan"? If so, I would love to talk to you. My grandfather, Lt. Edgar Danby was commanding the 3rd platoon of Co. B, 756th Tank Bn supporting your actions that day. Unfortunately, he was killed when his tank was hit with fire evidently by a German Panzer hiding in a cemetery at a bend up the road. According to a journal account from a townsperson at the time, an American patrol had gone up ahead and did not return, my grandfather may have been trying to go to their aid. This journal says the patrol was killed or captured by the Germans hiding out in the same cemetery. I would like to know what happened to that patrol, if possible; or simply hear about your experiences that day. I believe your commander at the time was quite a soldier, one Captain James W. Cole. He received the Distinguished Service Cross for his actions that day. If any of this sounds familiar to you, please call or e-mail me!--Jeff Danby

My grandfather was in Easy Co., 15th and just recently my father received a letter from a veteran of E Co./15th. In it he gave the name of the CO of Easy as Lt. Robert A. Wann. My documentation shows that Lt. Wann came over from Reg'tal I&R and became CO of Easy on 13 Jan 45. If I could make contact with Lt. Wann about Easy Company during his service in command of the company I would greatly appreciate it.

Subject: Purple Hearts
Hi, I was wondering if you know anything about how you get in touch with the
people in charge of sending purple hearts. The reason I was wondering,
is because my grandfather was supposed to receive one, and we got
papers in the mail saying he was going to receive it and never got it. He
has died now, and my family and I, were wondering how we can get in touch with
someone to see about getting it. Please write me back if you know how to get
in touch with anyone about it. Thanks

Dean Jenkins for James R Jenkins
From: Terre Haute, Indiana
email: djenk223@earthlink.net

Comments: I am writing for my father, James R. Jenkins who was a veteran of WWII and a member of the 3rd Div., 30th Inf. anti-tank company. He went by the nick-name of "Mother" while in the service. While in the Vogues (spelling?) Mnts in France he was stricken with polio and began a long journey through military medical facilities and back to the states. Upon returning stateside he ended up at the veterans hospital at Hot Springs, Arkansas where he met my mother, and army nurse Patricia Thornley. He is very much still committed to the 3rd Div. and the Army. Anyone who could contact him, send messages, etc. would be greatly appreciated. He still lives in Terre Haute, IN. with my mother and I care for him as needed. My deepest thanks to all of you veterans and especially to you of the 3rd Div. Looking forward to some replies.
