Subject: 3rd Division, 7th Infantry, Cannon Company
Comments: My grandfather, Carl L Good, was in the
3rd Division, 7th Infantry, Cannon Company. I have
been unable to find very much information about the
Cannon Company. He was a jeep driver and drove many
of the higher ranking officers around. Upon landing
in Fedala, Morocco in North Africa, his jeep hit a
big wave and sank. He was able to get to shore. He
took over the jeep of a different officer who's
driver was killed.
I am writing a story about his experiences and I
would like to know where he was during the different
campaigns. I know he went to Casablanca, Tunisia,
and Sicily. However, there were thousands of
soldiers there, and I would like to recreate
specific location as accurate as possible. I know he
was there for the fighting, but what exactly would
he be doing?
On July 17, he was driving for the Lt. Colonel of
the 7th Infantry Reg't., to connect with the 2nd and
3rd Battalion, when they were captured in Sicily.
The Lt. Colonel and two guards with them were
killed, but they took my grandfather to the main
headquarters in Agrigento. He was sent to different
POW camps throughout Italy and then he and many
others escaped through a hole in the wall of Camp
59.
He survived with one other soldier, named Jim, for
over nine months in Monte San Martino, before making
it back to allied lines. He wanted to go back to the
troops, but they said most of his group had been
killed and he wouldn't know anyone anyways.
They sent him back to North Africa and he arrived
home to the Boston Port on Aug. 2, 1944 on the
Mariposa. I have done extensive research to figure
out where his group would have been, but it never
talks about the jeep drivers. Would he have went to
Sicily on the same ships as the rest of the 7th
Army, 3rd Division, and landed on Licata with
Conolly of the JOSS TF, or would jeep drivers have
been somewhere else? I know that when the big storm
hit before landing, one of the tanks had come loose
and they formed a human chain to go out and connect
it again so it wouldn't capsize the ship. I don't
have the name of the ship or many other details.
My grandfather is alive and well and still talks
about his experiences, but if anyone else might have
more details about how the Cannon Company works or
if anyone happened to know him, I would greatly
appreciate it. I will continue to research and try
to place him based on the information I currently
have, but would love any extra information. Thanks!

Subject: A battery, 3rd Anti Aircraft artillery
training battalion pictureComments: I would like
to ask you, if you think I missed any places that
could possibly replace the only Battalion training
picture I ever had, unfortunately my younger brother
left all my military stuff in Brooklyn when my
mother moved. I am trying to get an A battery, 3rd
Anti Aircraft artillery training battalion picture,
March, April or May 1944. I think the last Battalion
to train at Eustis. I tried Carlisle barracks,
Archives, Washington Archives, All organizations in
Newport News where Fort Eustis was, to no avail.
Over the years I have written Fort Eustis & got
nothing. A month ago I contacted Eustis & sopke with
a young lady with them for just 12 months. She found
A battery, 2nd AAA training Battalion March 1943, a
year before my training ended & sent it to me.
Eustis is now a transportation training camp. Any
Ideas,

Dear Sirs,
My name is Christopher Black. I am trying to track
down more information on my grandfather. He served
in the 3rd Infantry during WWII. He passed when I
was young and I and as of late, I feel as though I
should learn more about him. I figured this is a
long shot, but I came across a coffee mug that he
always used that had a reunion date on it which led
me to your website. I am hoping that out of the few
people I have emailed that you will be able to point
me in the right direction. I am hoping to achieve
finding either some photos to give to my father or
just more information. I know this would mean the
world to him. I also work for DCFS and I am trying
to teach some of my clients about WWII and they
would love to get more information about the stories
I was able to tell them. Even if you would be able
to put me in contact with surviving men from his
unit, I would truly be thankful. I appreciate any
help you are able to give me and if you need any
further information, please don't hesitate to ask.
Sincerely,
Christopher Black
Webmaster's Note: PFC Leslie H. Black 30INF/Co M 1st

North Africa, Sicily, Italy, France and Gemany on

Comments: I had been searching for the general since
serving with him in Aschaffenburg, Germany in
1959-60. Since my first request I have found him.
After retiring as a 3-star general he began working
for General Dynamics and ended up back in Germany
where one of our S-3 clerks who also joined GD,
working together. He later removed to Kuwait with GD
where he suffered a heart attack and passed away
there. He made 1st Lt. in Germany in 1960 and
treated us to an evening out in celebration. He was
a fine officer and as all the S-3 officers treated
us extremely well. I, for one, was glad I knew him.
