Name: Richard W. McDaniel
Email:

Subject: Re: //photos added//Questions about

Comments: My name is Richard McDaniel. My Dad's
brother Melvin McDaniel was in the Korean War. I
have a photo of him standing in front of a tent.
The sign in front of the tent has the following
words:

Honey Buccaneers
Test II
3RD Sig Co.
3RD Team
I have no idea where that Communications Tent
was located in Korea, but would like to know. I
have a second photo of him with some sort of
wicker basket on his back while walking with a
cane looking stick. This was taken next to an
area of water and in what looks like a plowed
field there in Korea. He must have been
acting like one of the local farmers.
Melvin died of a heart attack when I was 12 or
so years old. He was only 36 then. I was in the
US Navy from 1969 to 1990 active duty and then
the reserves from 1990 to 1999. I am a VietNam
Combat Vet 1972-73.
I am wondering if anyone is still alive who knew
Melvin McDaniel back then. He went to some Army
schools at Fort Gordon Ga. before heading to
Korea. I also had some of my US Navy
Communications Training at Fort Gordon, Ga back
in 1971. Those classes had about 22 or so US
ArmyTroops, 2 of us Sailors, and 1 US Marine.
Regards,
Richard McDaniel

Subject: Pvt. Elmo Bertram, 3rd Infantry Div - Anzio
Comments: Gentlemen,
Please post the following enquiry on your
warfoto.com website.
My uncle, Pvt, Elmo Bertram from Jamestown, TN was
with the 3rd in Italy. He died in the hospital at
Anzio on 5 Mar 1944 after having been wounded in
action possibly on 3 Mar 1944.
After he died the family wasn't told much about what
happened. His records were mostly destroyed in the
St. Louis fire, the ones that I've been able to get
are badly burnt. Other than the burnt records, I
have a letter from the chaplain that buried him, MAJ
Lloyd E. Langford who was with the 3rd Inf. Div in
Italy.
I'm seeking any information about my uncle and
contact with 3rd Inf, members who were at Anzio in
the days of Mar 1944.
All the best!

I am writing on behalf of the Greatest Generations
Foundation. We are seeking two healthy World War II
veterans from the Third Infantry Division (WWII
veterans) to join us on our upcoming tour to Europe
to commemorate the 65th Anniversary of Victory in
Europe. The two veterans will be joining a total of
ten veterans and Ten American College students that
are descendents of WWII veterans that fought in the
European campaign. This program is scheduled to
depart the USA on May 10, returning on May 24. All
costs involved in this program are completely
underwritten by The Greatest Generations Foundation.
Note: veteran will need to have a valid passport and
supporting military documentation. Please let us
know if you have two veterans on hand that would be
deserving to return back to Europe for this
historical event.
Sincerely,
Timothy Davis

"Marne Division Week" bulldog holding a flag with

with the Marne division symbol at the bottom between
the ends of wheat. |
