The reason why I came across your web site this evening is because I am looking for detailed information concerning the battle at

in this area and each time I visit I very intrigued as to what went on in this region during WORLD WAR II.
My family in Italy tell me the GI'S treated them very well. As a matter of fact my wife's grandmother still has two GI blankets which were
given to her. If you would have any suggestions on where I should start it would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you for all your hard work in putting this web site together.

Request: Liberation of Lauterbourg
How happy (and flabbergasted) I was to see the photos in your site of such
places as Bischweir and Neuf Brisach in France (Alsace) during WW II ! I have
friends who fought IN Alsace then (Sgt. Charles Brutza, Sgt, James Benzinger,
and Sgt Ivan Davidson, et al.). The latter was a neighbor of mine from
Hamburg, NY who was killed in the bloody battle of Hattten/Rittershoffen in
Alsace, probably around Nov. 1944.
Another reason I was so happy to see your photos of these town during wartime is that my Mother was born in Alsace, in
the village of Lauterbourg -- right on the Rhine River. I believe her hometown was liberated by soldiers of the Third Infantry Division, and I have
old postcards and some maps of that town which I treasure.
Do you know of any written description of the liberation of Lauterbourg?
Incidentally, Sgt. Chuck Brutza was wounded in the fighting in the northern Vosges mountains and was taken prisoner. He now lives here in McLean,
Virginia.
Sgt. Jimmy Benzinger also survived the war, and is now living in Orchard Park, NY.
Again, congratulations on your fine web site!

Carolina - Kelly from Greenville, South Carolina - Ralph Miles (last seen in Omaha, NE at University
of Nebraska at Omaha by me in the late 70's) -
