Subject: My Uncle, Jimmy Vauclain

Comments:Sir,
My Uncle, Jimmy Vauclain, was in K Co. of the 30th division of the 3rd Company. I hope I have this terminology right. He died on May 24, 1944, having been on the beach head for many weeks. Is it possible anyone is still alive who knew him? Thank you for any direction you can give me.

Subject: Information Please 1
Comments: Hello…
I got your name from an historical reenactor friend of ours. My husband was stationed in Giebelstadt Germany with the 3rd Infantry Division as a weather officer with the Air Force. Retired, we now do a veterans expo each year in association with The Salvation Army. The Program is called VEAP (Veterans Easy Access Program) and we have vendors from many military, government, local and national agencies who come together one day each year all in one place to give information and services to veterans and active duty. We also honor two active duty from our local 29 Palms Marine Base, and two distinguished veterans from our local area. I have attached a picture taken the first year of our Expo at the Indio Armory. We have been growing. This year we have, as our key note speaker, Secretary Peter Gravett, California Secretary of Veterans Affairs. Joining him on the stage will be Congresswoman Mary Bono Mack, Assemblymen Brian Nestande and Manuel Perez, and County Supervisor John Benoit. Mike Moore will be portraying FDR. He is a member of CHG 2nd Armored Division, Military Vehicle Owners of Orange County and The Flying Tigers AVG Living History Group. Mike was with us last year.

Now the information I need. What is the procedure to be considered for an appearance by some of your folks? We will be at the Riverside County Fair Grounds this year on Saturday, October 27. It is a short day. The expo opens at 9 and runs through 1:30. It is a free event and includes free hot dogs, snacks, beverages, etc. If you could help by making an appearance, it would be a blessing. We will have an outside display with a Half-Track provided by the Patton Museum, and we are expecting a display, as yet undetermined to be provided by the Palm Springs Air Museum. We would love for you to join us.

Thanks for your help and consideration.

Blessings,
Deanna Young

Subject: Pvt. B.F. Loden

Comments: My brother, Pvt. B.F. Loden, was in the 1139th Engineer Combat Group, when he left the USA, out of New York to England. He was in Company B 206th Engineer. He had a "A" patch on his arm. I cannot get any information on the date he went across the channel. But a letter of his, dated July2, 1944, tells us he is in France, but not where. He was killed instantly killed, when a friends rifle accidently discharged near Chambley, France & buried at Andilly. He was killed on 9.18.1944, his 21st birthday. I have not been able to get any additional..information because of the fire at St Louis. I was only 10 when he was killed and would love to get any information on his unit's combat record from anybody.
Sincerely,
Billy Charles Loden, Sr.

Subject: Theodore S. Ruybal

Comment: I am researching my father's time with the 15th regiment of the 3rd. His name is Theodore S. Ruybal. He was an infantryman and a paratrooper. He was in Africa, Sicily and Italy. He was wounded at the battle of San Fratello, in Sicily and again in Italy, but I don't know which battle. Something to do with Naples/Foggia. Upon recuperating from his wounds, he finished his time in the army as a MP guarding prisoners of war in Texas at Mineral springs and at Maxia Texas. I would like to know which company and squad he was attached to. Attached is a photo of him and his friends. He is the thin short one front right. You can contact me at truybal@att.net.

Webmaster's Note: PFC Theodore S. Ruybal is listed as a member of the 15th Infantry Regiment in the roster section of the book History of the 3rd Infantry Division in WWII on page 500.

Comments: Dear Sir:
My dad was in the 3rd Infantry Div 30th Regiment Co I during WWII. He was awarded the Silver Star on 8 November 1942, the first day of ground combat in the ETO (see attached). There were no DSCs or Medals of Honor awarded that day, which makes it possible that he was the first American soldier decorated for bravery in the ETO. Does the Division have an historian or any other way to prove or disprove this?
Thanks,
Rick Rolak
