Comments: I am the daughter of Sgt. Carrol E. (Bud) Fairclo who has since
passed away 3 years ago.
My brother Larry Fairclo is writing a book called, "The Quiet Hero"
regarding his war experiences and
how it effects the veteran and the family of the veteran. We lost his
medals in a fire and it has taken 3 years
to reissue them and finally May 6th they will be dedicated at the Veterans
Facility in The Dalles, Oregon
on May 6, 2001 at 6 PM. Anyone who knew my father, we would love to hear
from you and chat.
Senator Walden's office of Oregon is writing a grant for monies for my brother
to retrace my dad's footsteps
in Italy; to see where he was shot, also the site of the German pill box where
he captured the enemy and saved
many men in his unit. Also in Italy, he is to get the last medal for our
family's collection which is the
Italian Medal of Valor. We also hope to obtain movie rights....my dad was rodeo
rider before and after the war.
I am also researching his time after he was wounded and returned to Camp
Tule Lake for the
Interned Japanese-Americans (Calif.) I am trying to find out the unit's name for
the Army soldiers stationed
at this campsite and if anyone knows, I would appreciate an email....Thanks so
much.
I am trying to get a memorial for all the veterans who homesteaded and
others who purchased land
and farmed in the Tulelake Basin, California. There will be a future
interpretive center at the campsite,
but I want recognition for the 2,000 Army soldiers who were also at the camp.
Does anyone have any information on the unit's name or information.
Thank you for your time. Sincerely,

His name was Lou Cavicchia. He's from PA and served w/ the "fighting 69'th."
He was usually called "Cavik," and was a first generation American.
My great grandparents were from around where his unit was operating in
Italy. He spoke Italian so was always called by the guards to come talk to
the locals when they showed up wanting something. He spoke of running into
relatives this way and he and his buddies getting a good meal out of it.
If anyone has info, please email me. I have some old pictures I found
and may have one of you I can scan and send to you. I'd like to hear about
what he was like then.
