My father, Charles Raymond Davenport (passed away in 1986) was in the 3rd Infantry Division,
Company G, 30th Infantry.
I am trying to trace my father's unit's movements/campaigns from WW II.
and he was in G Company, 30th Infantry of the 3rd Infantry Division. My mom gave me copies of his
discharge papers last year. I'm still trying to figure out if he was in the 3rd or 7th Army.
He arrived overseas for the war January 14, 1945. My mom said he crossed over the Rhine at Worms,
but that's about all I know.
Your site (Bill Heller website) is the only one I found with the same patch as my father who passed away in 1986.
One of the photos on your website is one of the 30th Infantry Regiment "Raiders" hunting snipers in France.
Do you have any information on the 30th Infantry? Is there a way to enlarge that photo?
My mom gave me copies of his discharge papers this past year & I've been trying to locate his units
movements/campaigns. Any suggestions?
I wrote to the military office in St. Louis (sent copies of his discharge papers & a letter requesting information),
that was over 8 months ago & I haven't heard back from them. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Sincerely, Mary Ann Davenport

Subject: 3rd Infantry, 15th Regiment, information about my grandfather

Comments: I would be interested in learning more about my Grandfather´s experiences in WWII.
He was with the 3rd/15th.  He´s still alive in California while I currently live here in Europe.
I see him only once every two years and I try to ask him as much as possible about his experiences
when he was here but he can only remember so much.  He fought at Monte Cassino, Cassino,
and landed in the South of France.  He remembers the names of places like Lyons, Strasbourg,
the Colmar pocket, and ending the war in Salzburg and then being transferred to Munich before returning to the US.
He fought on the front for many months before being made a General's orderly.  He recalls General O´Daniel,
General Young, and General Clark but he doesn't recall much more.  I'm currently traveling back to Prague
from Barcelona Spain and each chance I get, I try to retrace my Granddad's footsteps and try to take some photos
so I can send back to him.  If anyone has been back to places like Besancon, Colmar, or the like
and can recommend places to visit, I'd be greatly appreciative and would share my photos with you.

P.S. Thanks so much for the efforts you've placed in your website.
I sent a personal notice and request today but forgot to add the following items about my grandfather.
One, his name Joe Joung, PVT
two, a very distinguishable feature.....he is Chinese.  I'm sure there weren't very many Chinese-Americans
there and I've often wondered at the look on the eyes of a German or Italian soldier
when they came face to face with my granddad.

My Great-Uncle was in the 3rd Infantry Division during WWII, and I have been told he was somewhat highly
decorated. Would your organization be able to find out what his accomplishments were?  I was told he was
awarded the Defense Distinguished Service Medal (Cross Maybe?).  I would really like to know for sure, but no-
one in the family knows for sure.  He had two brothers who were killed in the Korean War, I am in the process of
finding information on them as well.  Not very many family members served after Korea, until I joined the military
so not much has been mentioned.  I would be very grateful if you could find anything about him.
His Name is Jerry Daniels, and he is from Monroe, Mi.  The family calls him "Jeep"  ( I suppose being called
"Jerry" after fighting in WWII wouldn't quite have the same ring to it.)
I understand there were many people in the 3rd during WWII, So, even if you don't find anything, I still appreciate
you taking time to read this. Thank-you

Subject: Research Information - Clay Pigeon

Recently my family found a journal that was kept by my grandfather (Peter Formisano) during World War II.
In the journal we discovered things unknown to us before my grandfather passed away.

After reading through the journal this weekend, I became interested in obtaining information about the missions
of "The Clay Pigeon" and my grandfather were part of.
According to the journal and information we could scrape together, he was a crew chief on this plane and took
part in the invasion of Normandy.  I believe the plane was used to launch gliders, however, this could be inaccurate.

Any assistance anyone can provide would be appreciated. Thank you in advance for taking time to read and respond
to this inquiry.Regards, Peter Formisano

I found your website in my search for information about fighting in the town of Colmar
during World War II.  My father always said he was captured in that town on 5 January, 1945.
Members of his army unit say he must have it mistaken for Offendorf to the north.
I don't believe he could have been that wrong.  The two towns are not close together,
nor are the names at all similar.  It seems unlikely that he could have confused the two.
I am hoping you can direct me to more information about fighting in the town around that date
so that I can try to clear up the mystery.  I want to honor his memory by preserving his history
and passing it on to my own sons and future generations.

Comments: I am looking for information on my father Lester Crawford. He served in ETO
6Sp44 to 16Nov45. I remember him talking of being in France, Belgium, Holland and Germany.
He witnessed the loss of many men from his group as the memories were relived on many
Memorial Days and Veterans Days. I am not sure what division he may have been attached to
as I can find nothing listed as 963rd FA Bn. Thank you.

I need a little help in obtaining a book that I received after the war was over in Germany, and is now lost. Don't recall the name. but did know that it contained all the battles and routes W/ pictures that my Regiment had been involved in.
I was in the battle of the Bulge in Dec of 1944,with the 90th Inf. Division, 359th Reg, Co L. fought through Central Europe with Patton's 3rd Army, wounded in the last few weeks before Germany surrendered.
I would appreciate any contact with any GI's that I served with.

I am researching my late father's WWII experience. He was Lee E. Hatfield (PFC)- 3rd Division,
30th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Battalion, Co. F & Headquarters Co.. He served from North Africa
(April 1943) to the end of the war in Salzburg. Then he stayed on occupation duty at several sites
until late October 1945. I would appreciate any information or contact from someone who might
have served with him. He was wounded at Brolo, Sicily and returned to duty shortly after that.
I have a good deal of information personal and the two original histories) , but there are gaps. Thank you.
