Comments:  I would like to find out more information about me grandfather.
He served in the last Horse Cavalry in WWII.  I do know that he fought hand to hand combat
on the Burma Trail. Also that he was out of Abilene Texas and did go through
basic training near there.  Though they were called 'horsemen', once on the Burma Trail,
didn't see a horse but used mules because of the terrain.  Thank you for any information.

Subject: Please tell me about my father's war years.

Comments:  My father died 10 years ago, long before I could talk to him about the war.
I would love to talk to anyone that knew him during ww2.  I don't have much information to go on.
He joined the Massachusetts guard just before the war broke out.  He was then in the army.
At one time or another he was a staff sergeant.  He fought in the battle of Saipain, that I know for sure.
I have this little bit of info, CAC 241 Regiment, 25th infantry.  He served 6 years in the service up
until the end of the war. Thank you in advance for anything you might know of him during those years.

the 3rd infantry. He was awarded two Silver Stars and six Bronze Stars. He received a Purple Heart

Subject: Kirby Edward Wesley

Comments:
My father was Kirby Edward Wesley, SS# 34 819 057. He was a member of Co C,
30th Infantry Regiment. He saw action in the ETO from 28Jul44-3Mar46. He was in Italy,
France, Germany, and England. His Separation Qualification record states that he "performed
duties with the 93rd Ordnance Company and other Ordnance Units in the European Theater of Operations."
He is listed as a Parts Clerk, Automotive and a Truck Driver, Light. His DD214 also states that he
received the European African Middle Eastern Service Medal w/2 Bronze Stars.

Sadly my father passed away May 8, 2001. In supplying the information to the VA necessary
for him to be given a military funeral, I discovered that he had been awarded the two Bronze Stars.
I am currently trying to find out any information regarding the awarding of those medals.
Typically, Daddy never mentioned the awards. Thank you for your time.

Subject: Battle of Chatkol, 7-8 April 1953

Comments:
I'm assisting a Luxembourg veteran who served with the Belgian Bn, 7th Inf Rgt, 3rd Inf Div,
in Korea, 1952-53.  He was recommended for the Silver Star by the Belgian Bn Cdr, LTC Gathy,
but the paperwork was somehow lost in going from Belgian to US channels.  I need information on
the actions occurring along the 3rd ID's defensive line, known as the "White Horse Mountain Line",
during early April 1953, what has been called, the Battle of Chatkol.
The Chinese apparently launched a large attack the night of 7/8Apr53, which was eventually repelled
with heavy losses to the Chicom forces.  Cpl Raymond Beringer's heroic act of, voluntarily and on his
own initiative, moving his machine gun from inside the safety of his bunker to an exposed position on
the top of it, despite heavy mortar shelling which was pinning down his comrades, provided a greater
field of fire and inflicted heavy casualties which blunted the Chinese assault.
I am searching for details which will put this action into perspective, i.e. what Chinese forces attacked,
where, what was the 3rd ID's and 7th Inf Rgt's response, casualties suffered on both sides, how did this
engagement fit in with the operations being conducted during this period, i.e. was it one firefight as part
of a larger Chinese offensive to penetrate the UN defenses, a probing attack, etc.
Quick responses are appreciated as vet is currently ill (70 years of age).

Subject: 3rd Division 7th Infantry 3rd Battalion I Company

Comments:
I am looking for any WWII veterans that were in the 3rd Division 7th Infantry 3rd Battalion I Company
and knew my dad Manuel V. Ortiz PFC. My dad is 77 years old and he is sick.
I am trying to find information on what happen when he was put up for the Distinguished Service Cross.
He was nominated in 1944 by 7 of fellow comrades and also by a General Mandeli. My dad apparently
had refused to accept a battle field commission of 2nd lieutenant and had also turned in his platoon sgt. stripes.
Manuel V. Ortiz got notice from his commanding officer that he was going to be recognized,
but not for the Distinguished Service Cross but for the Medal of Honor.
My dad got rated about 3 times and he thinks that because of his refusal of the battlefield commission
the Medal of Honor was held back.  I am looking for anybody that was in the
3rd Division 7 Infantry 3rd Battalion I Company that new my dad and knows anything about this
or knows about my dad's recognition in 1944.

PS: On July, 2001 my dad, After 51 years he received (in the mail) a Bronze Star and a commendation medal
for bravery in saving the lives of some fellow comrades and in capturing 26 German Soldiers.

I recently received from the US War Graves Department a large number of documents relating
to the identification of the body of my uncle Joseph E. Feldman, Co.G, 4th Infantry,
who was killed in action during WW I and ultimately reburied at Oise Aisne.
A penciled in notation on one of the documents indicated after 'Company G, 4th Infantry",
that he was in the 3rd Division.
The documents also included a number of letters regarding the Mother's Pilgrimage
which by the time the body had finally be identified, my grandmother who had at first
wanted to go on the Pilgrima, had to decline because of her "weakness" and poor health.

I have been trying to find out more about the battle in which my uncle lost his life on
June 29, 1918 and about which ship he may have embarked on in order to reach France.
I also have his draft registration card from NARA and a post-death registration card from
the NY State Education Department Archives.

Subject: Hawaii

Comments: I am trying to find three men who were in Hawaii on July 10, 1945
(date handwritten on margin of the bill)and signed their names to a HAWAII one dollar bill.
I can make out the name R. Victor Smith. The other two are guesses, Jerome Noble and
J.J. Raseuecler III. My husband & I purchased the dollar bill at a coin show and and thought
it would be interesting to see if we could track the three gentlemen.
I am not sure whether they were in the military or civilians, but chances are that the could be veterans.
Could you help? Thank you!

Subject: Korean War service citations

Comments:
I am looking for good photographs of two citations my dad's unit was awarded by foreign governments
during the Korean War.
They are the "Chryssoun Aristion Andrias" (Bravery gold medal of Greece) and the
"Korea Presidential Unit Citation".
I am doing a photo composite as a gift to honor my dad, and would like to include photos
of these medals in the design. Surely there are books with photos, but I have met with dead ends. Thanks.

Subject: History on my Uncle's Unit

Comments:
As a former member of the 3rd Division I am currently trying to track down any information
on my Uncle Lloyd Dolphs old Unit. My Uncle was terribly wounded in action in Korea (I think in 1953),
his unit was Baker Company, 1st Battalion, 7th Infantry Regiment.

I know he arrived in Korea in December 1952, made Cpl on Bar after 40 days in combat,
then made Squad Leader, then Plt Sgt after the Plt Sgt was killed. My Uncle has never spoken of the war,
and my Dad always told us not to mention it. I served 22 years active duty, and 19 years was with the Marne Div.
A photo of my Uncle Lloyd was proudly displayed on my desk all of those years. I have always wondered
about his Unit. I also know that he was a very highly decorated soldier. Anyone who may have known him or
any other information about Baker Co.1/7 Inf regiment please contact me. V/R SFC(R) Randy Dolph

Subject: George Hubert Dunham

Comments: My father, George Hubert Dunham, 7th Army, 3rd Div.,Company K, 15th Reg
was killed in Cleurie, France on October 5, 1944 when taking a group of stone houses from the Germans.
The 3rd Squad took a house and several hours later when entering one of the rooms,
a mine went off killing him, his Staff Sergeant and blinding his Lieutenant.  I know this much from a
meeting my Aunt had with the infantryman who identified his body, a man named Victor Wade.
My father was a replacement and with his unit only 2 days when he was killed.
I am interested in finding out more about the 7th Army, 3rd Division, Company K, 15th Reg
and their path in WWII.  Is there a book I might purchase? I was 2 1/2 years old when he was killed.
On a recent trip to the cemetery at Epinal, France I was moved to try to find out more about him.
Thank you for any assistance you might be able to offer.
