Subject: Bert McLelland, Jr. -- 3rd Division WW2, Korea, Vietnam

Comments:
I am looking for anyone who might have served with my father, Bert McLelland, Jr.  He first served with the Third in Germany in 1945-6, as an MP in Garmisch-Partenkirchen.  He got his commission when Korea came along, and over there he served with the 10th FA Bn as a forward observer.  His last combat tour was in 1963 as an advisor in South Vietnam.

He died in 1972, having spent the last twelve years of his life, and the first nine of mine, in the Army.  I have a three-year-old son who is named for him, and since my father died when I was so young, I don't have that many first-hand stories to pass along.  I would really appreciate hearing from anyone who knew him.  I have a good many photos from Germany, Korea, and Vietnam which I would be glad to share.
Thanks,
Jon McLelland

Subject: World War 2 Silver Star recipient

Comments:
I'm trying to find some information about a Native American named BEAUPREY who recently died.  In his obituary from the
SHAWANO (WISCONSIN) LEADER, it said he served during World War 2 as a personal bodyguard to
General of the Army, Dwight D. Eisenhower in the European Theater of action.

The information mentioned that he was awarded a Silver Star, Bronze Medal and the Purple Heart.
Sorry, I don't have anymore information than that.  This information was told to me from a friend, whose wife and
co-workers were talking about seeing the article in the newspaper.
I would like to know if you can find out any more detailed information for me.

It's another case of a long forgotten man who made history in our region.  The only other information I have
is that he lived on the Keshena (Indian) Reservation when he died.  The Keshena Reservation is in Shawano (Wisconsin) County.

I know this is probably a long shot, but here it goes.
I was wondering if their was anyone out there  that knew my Grandfather Sgt. Emil A Olson.

I know he was in the 30th, and I believe he was also in the 3rd Ranger BN for a short time.
He fought in Africa, Sicily, and Italy, and went home shortly before the third reached Rome.

I remember him telling a story about when he was one of only three survivors out of 68 Rangers,
and then I heard someone else tell the same story on Oliver North's "War Stories" series on FoxNews channel!
He won the Bronze star at Anzio, and I would just love to hear from someone that knew him.
Well, thank you in advance.

Comments:
Hi!
Finally figured out why my Dad had so many "Rock" pins, etc.
He served with the 3rd CO A 2nd BG 38th INF in the mid to late '50s at Fort Benning and went with the 3rd to Germany
with CO E thru '62.
Spent two tours in Korea from '49 thru mid '50s, but not sure if he was with the 3rd.
Also with the 66th 262nd inf in ww2, might have been on the Leupoldville as he was wounded on that day.
Welcome responses from anyone who knew him. Thanks, Mike

Subject: Roy H, Landis,3rd Division AEF World War I

Comments: Dear Sirs:  My father, Roy H. Landis was a PFC and served with the 3rd Division in France
during World War I.  I know that it was the 3rd since his helmet (which we had at home when I was a kid)
had the 3rd Division patch on the front.

I wrote to the army records division and the only information they could supply was his serial Number(553 096)
and that he served as a PFC from June 27th,1917 until Sept. 2,1919.  I know that he was in a machine gun battalion
and that he trained at Camp Green Charlotte, N.C. before going overseas.
I have no other details as to his battalion number, company or regiment.

I have in my possession his WWI victory medal showing all the battle that he participated in and
they are the same as those shown for the 3rd during WWI.  I also have his Croix de Guerre medal
(with bronze or silver--I can't make out exactly---star.) for personal bravery.  Unfortunately, the original certificate
awarded by the French Government was lost after my father's death.

Any information on this member of the 3rd Division and as to where I might go for further information on his
specific Croix de Guerre citation would be sincerely appreciated.
P.S.  I was a member of the U.S. Navy during World War II and served aboard a destroyer in the Mediterranean
giving support to the mighty 3rd.

I know that he served with a machine gun battalion, but don't know the particular company, regiment and battalion.
Strikes me that it might have been the 7th machine gun battalion but I can't say for sure.

At present I am holding his World War I service medal showing all the battle sectors you show on your WEB site.
And I also have a medal (the Croix de Guerre) that he received from the French Government for gallantry in action. Unfortunately, I don't have a copy of the original citation certificate.

Would appreciate any help you can give on finding his unit # and to where I might go for further info
on his Croix de Guerre specifics. Sincerely,
Forrest E. Landis E-Mail Mandf44@aol.com
