Comments:
I served in 70 Inf. div. in the war and lacked 5 points getting to return with
my Div. I went over with.
I was transferred to the 3rd sometime in early 45 and was stationed in a small
town just outside Kassel.
It was Neiderlinestine (spelling ?) I have little memory of men's names I served
there with. I know we had a host of 70th men
in our unit.
I would sure like to hear of someone that served there in the
houses of former German Party Members.
One of the things I remember so well was the mess hall where we ate had large
pictures of all our military officers.
They were painted on the walls approximately 3' X 4' by a German artist. They
were beautiful paintings. It would be nice to hear from any remembering the
time 1945-1946. Mastin A. Robison marjr@surfree

Subject: Remember Not To Forget
Comments: I am not sure you can help me, but maybe I'm on the right track? I am looking for information on my father.
His name: Wilbert Owen Haycraft. He said he was with the 3rd Infantry, Armor Division. He was a tank Commander. His classification when he entered in Illinois reads: 1-C disc. Order#11649-A 11/19/45.
His honorable discharge was in Georgia 9/28/45 He said he was awarded 4 silver and 3 bronze stars all with valor
and said he was in France, N. Africa, Sicily, Italy and Rome. I know there was an article written about him
when he received one of the medals and it was in a paper in Peoria, Ill. and possibly Louisville, Ky. paper.
I am his daughter Debbie and I was born in 1967. My father passed away in 2/22/87, in Michigan where
he had been living since after the war. He was born in Grayson Co. KY on 2/23/23.
I would be infinitely grateful if you can steer me to the location I need to find any information on his military records,
as I cannot locate the medals or accommodations, his uniform or any paperwork on him. My mother had quite a time
getting a death certificate for him.
When I was about 11, he showed me all of these items I mentioned and my mother and I cannot locate these now. We think he may have given them all away to friends.
I do know about the fire...but was hoping I could just find his Unit#, Company#, outfit or regiment. I am trying to finish
his portion of my family tree. A relative is writing a book about the Haycraft Family Lineage and she has a deadline.
She wants me to get this info. to her ASAP so my dad can be in this book. I just want to give her accurate information
to go down in the book.
Of course, this is all that I can come up with... I have come to a brick wall. Finding the right information is now my passion!!
Can you please share with me anything that might help me in my plight? He spoke a lot about Audie Murphy and I thought
he said he was in the 3rd Infantry as well. I think he admired him as well as others.
I do remember some stories he told me about being pinned down by gunfire and he single-handed captured 13 German Soldiers
and was awarded for it. He also had a pistol from a High ranking German's daughter and I believe he said he killed him with it.
At any rate, I am sorry to drop this desperate plea on you... As I am sure there is thousands out there in a similar position.
So, thank you in advance for any feedback you will allow me. I sure appreciate it. Sincerely, Debbie Haycraft Devries

I am currently trying to track down information on Jason H. Jaffe, he served in
the 409th.
If anyone reads this who served with him, could you please contact me.
I'm trying to find the records of his WIA so he can be awarded his purple heart posthumously.
He was shot right through the nose. Where and when, I'm trying to find out,
thank you.

She was from Ft. Lee VA. She is about twenty one years old. I

We lost contact with each other about two years ago. Please please help me.

I am looking for anyone who fought with my father, Otto McKinney. I know he was
in the islands of the South Pacific.
He received a bronze star for the campaigns he fought in.
He was a medic, and he told me stories of the men he saved, and those who could
not be saved.
He never forgot the horror of WW11.
If anyone knows anything about dad, or anyone who knew him, please respond to
this email.

Subject: Co. B 756 Tank WWII
Comments:
I hope I'm in the right place. I'm a newcomer, to say the least. I am a poet who
often writes about things historical, especially pertaining to my native Staten
Island. Last week, while going through a closet full of old letters,
pictures, and the like at a local antique store, I came upon a letter written
home to S.I. by a soldier in WWII. His name was Melville Corson and he was
with Co. B. 756 Tank Battalion.
The letter is dated January 1944. I didn't read it until I
got home, but I bought it along with some photos of whom I supposed was the
soldier writing the letter. When I read the letter, I was greatly moved by this
young man's words--his fears, his hopes. Along with the letter I found memorial
cards. It seems as though the boy was killed and I found him on a roster
with FOD after his name.
The letter was to his mother. It makes me very sad that these
precious photos and letter ended up in a junk shop, but they have a place of
honor in my home now. The thing is, I wish I knew more about him and what
happened to him.
Can anyone help me out? I'm thinking this may have been one of his last letters
home.
Thanks, Marguerite

Dear Dave:
In looking over the record of current service of Thomas Rupley, it shows that he joined the 3rd Infantry Division
as a replacement on April 8th, 1953. From there, he was assigned as a rifleman to Company C, 7th Infantry Regiment
of the 3rd Infantry Division on April 11th, 1953. (Therefore, he would have received the
CIB.)
What I will do is send the following e-mail to our editor of The Watch on the Rhine,
and to our Webmaster to be put on our Web site: http://www.warfoto.com/3rdiv.htm
I am looking for information on Thomas J. Rupley who served as a rifleman in Company C, 7th Infantry Regiment in Korea.
He joined Company C on April 11th, 1953. He passed away in 1976. I served with Mr. Rupley from 1960-1962
and lived in the same barracks.
Yours in the 3rd,
Carl Q. Topie
