Subject: PFC Donald E. MacGregor
Comments: Battalion
Hi:
My father served in the 15th Infantry with the 3rd Division during WWII. He
arrived overseas in Sept 1944 (I think) and was overseas for 18 months. I have a
book which chronicles the 3rd's campaigns - the appendix of the book has a
roster of men who served
and sure enough there was my father's name.
I know he served in I Company of the 15th, but I don't know the battalion and
the appendix does not have this information.
I am tracing the action of the 15th in the Vosges and in Colmar and it would be
helpful to know what battalion he was in.
Any info you can provide would be appreciated. Thank you.

I find out this info?
Also, can I write a message on this site if my dad was not in the 3rd Div.?
If not, can you point me in the right direction?

Searching for answers from WWII dogies about Sgt Lloyd C. Tatroe, 16020182 of
the 15th Infantry. Graves registration has him DOW (Died of Wounds) on Oct 6,
1944 and buried in Sicily-Rome American Cemetery (Plot F, Row 14, Grave 36) in
Nettuno, Italy. The 15th Infantry was in Southern France when Sgt Tatroe died.
How might he be buried then in Nettuno, Italy Cemetery??

Subject: Signal Operations
Comments: Thanks so much for your help last month. Was wondering how
I can find out about signal operations. I have decided to keep my character 1st
Lt. Tom Lockwood with the 41st Signal Company. As such he is involved (in my
novel of course) in a number of campaigns in New Guinea. In one at Wakde, a
massed landing with three tanks, the 41st divisional history states that "For
shore to shore communication an underwater telephone cable was laid from the
mainland to Insoemanai and later to Wakde." Was wondering two things:
1. Was the cable laid before the landing or during the landing?
2. How was an underground cable laid?
Any details would be greatly appreciated. Looking forward to hearing from you.

He died in 1983, and I would like to talk to anyone who served with him. His

Subject: Need info about W.C. Winlock
Comments:
A friend of mine collects old military uniforms and has one from the 3rd
Infantry Division with the name 'W.C. Winlock' in it.
My friend says that the rank insignia is 3 stars on the 'shoulder epaulets' and
that the uniform also came with several campaign awards
that show that this man served in your division during much of W.W. II. Do you
have any information on Gen. Winlock that I might pass on to my friend?
Thank you. Fred D. Hall

Subject: George Sinclair Blaser
Comments:
My stepfather, George Sinclair Blaser, was in the 30th Regiment, 2nd Battalion,
3rd Division in WWII.
He died in 1996, but I had interviewed him over a period of time and recorded
his war experiences for the family. He was sent to Casablanca after the Salerno
landings and trained for amphibious landings. He was a pfc in the Anzio landing
and subsequent holding of the beachhead.
In August, he went in on the 7th wave of the Normandy landing. He was taken
prisoner by the Germans three days later
and spent 9 months in three different camps and was working on a farm near the
Danue River, when he and the other workers
were liberated on the 3rd day of May.
If you were involved in one of these events, I would like to hear your story.
I am very interested in talking with anyone that my step dad may have served
with. Thanks!

REQUEST #1566
Name: Al Brown, Co. H, 30th Inf
E-mail: SpearBrown@aol.com
Subject: Seeking help from the "Can Do" Regiment
Comments: This is to seek help from the "Can Do" Regiment. I am a WWII veteran
from the 30th Infantry. I have made friends with a German that was a soldier in
the Nineteenth Army that opposed us from St. Tropez to Austria. I met him at the
2001 ceremony in Jebsheim. He is a very nice fellow, and very pro-USA. He has
asked for my help in getting information regarding the first American troops to
occupy Freudenberg.
The Mayor of Freudenberg is writing a history of his town,
and he is very interested in documenting the capture of Freudenberg. He wants to
know as much of the details as can be documented. He especially wants to know
the Company, Battalion, and Regiment that captured Freudenberg. He also wants to
know the extent of fighting that took place, or if it was surrendered
peacefully.
From my copy of "History of the Third Infantry Division in World War II", I have
determined that the 1st Bn., 15th Inf., occupied Miltenberg which is about 4
miles SW of Freudenberg, and that the 2nd Bn., 15th Inf., occupied Reistenhausen
which is about 2 miles NE of Freudenberg. There is no mention of Freudenberg in
the 3rd Div. History. Please refer to Pgs 345, 346, & 347 of the 3rd Div
History.
Knowing the battle experience of the 15th, I know that patrols would have been
sent out to scout for possible enemy counter attack forces. I feel certain that
at least one patrol would have been sent to check on Freudenberg. Since the 1st
Bn was nearest to Freudenberg, it is more likely that the patrol would have come
from one of its companies.
It is very likely that the History of the Fifteenth Infantry in WWII would make
some mention of Freudenberg. Could you help me contact a "Can Do" Vet so that I
can ask him to check the 15th History for this information? I want to help my
friend as much as I can.
Thank you, Al Brown, Co. H, 30th Inf.

I would like to find out any information that would document where my
step-father was injured. He was transported on a
hospital boat, March 26, 1945. Battle of Rhineland. His last diary entry was his
arrival of October 7, 1944. He was a
Sgt. Medic of the 7th Infantry, 3rd. Div.
He was discharged at Hq A&NGH Hot Springs National Park
Arkansas, August 1945. He was never issued a purple heart
and I am trying to get him the award he deserves. He was held for days by German
soldiers at gun point and let go and with injuries.
Suffers with post traumatic stress and is currently in a
nursing home. He is frequently reliving the war on a daily basis.
I hope someone can help. Thank you. Yvonne
