Subject: Earl Shapiro, 3rd Division, 15th Infantry Regiment, Company F

Comments: Dear Mr. Heller and co-workers:
My name is Emily Geissal, and I would first like to thank you for helping people find lost information about their friends and family members. That is honorable work. I am asking for your help in locating information about my grandfather, Earl Shapiro. He served in the Army from December of 1940 until June of 1945, having spent over 2 years in the National Guard before that. During World War II he fought in Southern France, the Rhineland, Central Europe, and I believe Italy. He was part of the 3rd Division, 15th Infantry Regiment, Company F. He was taken prisoner in September of 1944. He escaped and was honorably discharged in 1945. We have copies of all of the papers in his personal file, but we are interested in his unit file. Is there documentation of what his particular company did during his time in the war? Are there "unit minutes" of some sort that we can find? My family is interested in finding notes that were taken during the war about specific battles and occurrences. We think that my grandfather would enjoy looking at these papers (if they can be found) as well. Do you have access to his unit file? I would be very grateful for your help, and I hope the information I have provided is useful.
Sincerely,
Emily Geissal

Subject: Bob Hope shows

Comments:  Hello,
My dad was with the 3rd Division in World War II, in reconnaissance. He was even with a cavalry unit for a while, spent most of the war on the wrong side of German lines...
One of the last things I learned about before he passed away was once seeing a big Bob Hope show during in WWII.
Do you have information as to when & where the Hope Shows were held?

When I have time, I am going to try and track down more information about my dad's service. I don't know what is findable.
He did receive quite a few medals, and said he was in every major European Theatre.
Wish dad could have seen your site, he might have recognized some of the images.
Quick comments - great site,

I am trying to find out whatever I can about my grandfather's involvement in WWI.  I don't know if you can help me or not.
The following was found in a book about the locals in the war.

         M. G. Bn. = Machine Gun Battalion

His first campaign was in Anzio and he was wounded on January 23, 1945 (he was hit in his eyes with fragments from a land mine).
He raised 10 children in Los Angeles, Ca.  I understand that he was a 2nd lt. but may have been a 1st lt.
Anything would be great.

David Daze is listed on page 514 of the book, The History of The Third Infantry Division in W.W.II by James Taggart as a

135th Infantry, Company I.  I am looking for anyone who served in this unit from 1943 through 1945.  A friend's dad served in this unit and has given me some of his papers because I am a WW II history buff.  I would like to get the names and addresses of anyone who may have served with him so he could contact others in his unit.  If you or any members of your family served in this unit during the dates above, please e-mail me.
Thanks

Subject: 789 AAA AW BN History or Frank S. Oakes

Comments:
Respectfully request any an all information regarding the 113 789 AAA AW BN that my father Frank Stanslow Oakes, of Rangeley, Maine served with during WWII, 1944-1946.
He passed away in Sep 1975 and I knew nothing of his service until I recently received family files when my uncle, Arthur Wendell Oakes, died in Oct 2002.
Apparently Dad trained with Co D 271 TB at Camp Croft (?) and there was a photo of Co D 27 Inf BN as well.  Can anyone tell me if they are related?  I remember seeing something about Fort Eustis but can't find it now.  Dad's photo album also held shots of Bremershaven Germany which must have been taken during the occupation time frame.
I heard Dad had gone to Guam in WW II as well and he had a photo labeled Camp Pinedale, CA.  Don't know if it was after VE day or not.
I would appreciate any and all information anyone can provide regarding the 113 789 AA AW Bn or Frank Stanslow Oakes in WWII.
Thanx,   Monty Oakes
