Subject: I am interested in the Third Infantry Division information from the WWII period.

Comments:
* Specifically, I have seen a picture of a Black soldier who was listed as having served with the 39th Field Artillery during WWII. Could you clarify which units within the 3rd Division had Black troops attached or assigned during WWII?
* The 7th Infantry Regiment created "battle patrols" for the Southern France Invasion and they wore patches on the right breast pocket of their M43 jackets. Do you have a picture of the battle patrol patches that you can download? I have seen a blurred photo of the patch. It looks like a ball cut in half, with the straight edge pointing downward. It has a cloud with a lightening bolt going through it. The words "battle patrol" are written across the top in an arc. I'd like to see a clearer picture and get details on the colors of the patch, when it was worn, etc.
* The Army assigned unit serial numbers and invasion bars to mark unit vehicles and equipment. This was done for Normandy, Southern France, Anzio, etc. Can you reference the correct unit (3rd ID) serial number and bar code?

If you could point me in the right direction, I would really appreciate it. Thanks in advance for your help.

Subject: Harold Morrical, What is a signal corp?

Comments: Hello,
My name is Jan and my Father in law Harold Morrical ( enlisted Chicago ,Ill) was in the Sig HQ Opns Co A 927th Sig Bn
1943-1945 . We have no idea what he did there. Since he didn't ever speak much about the war other than to say he was in it. After the recent death of my Mother in-law we are just now finding boxes of pictures from WWII all with written documentation and journals he wrote during the war.
Looking at the pictures on your site one becomes very moved at what you all endured.
What is a signal corp? This is my first web search re:ww11......I am profoundly moved by what I've seen and read.
I only wanted to find out what all the medal he has are for,do you know where I can find this information?
Once again thank you for the information on your site. I will from this day on count my blessings for every thing each and every American did for the world during WWII. Thank you.

He was later wounded in the Battle of the Bulge and was treated at the 39th General Hospital in Leige, Belgium where he was awarded the Purple Heart. However the medal was lost. Comments: I am looking for anyone left that was there @ Omaha Beach with the 741 Tank Battalion.
My Father was there June 6th Willis D. Warren Sr. from Tennessee. His DD tank sank in the North Sea and all his crew made it in to shore. He went on to make it all the way through the war with 5 tanks shot out from under him. Parked his tank in Czechoslovakia oh well I can't spell it. He was at the Bulge @ Krenkelt and Rockerath the twin villages. You will know where that is. When the bulge hit he was the last tank out. All the way out he just knew he was a dead man. Waiting for that 88 to hit that Ronson.
He was also @ Hill 192 a small little battle, Not! I know a few people that are left from the 741st. God Bless

Subject: Information on my fathers tour of duty in WW2

Comments:
To Whom it may concern
I am the son of Charles Anthony Brondello and I am researching his earlier days. Charles Brondello has passed away and left some information on his tour of duty during WW2. I am now trying to document and possibly expand on the stories he told me when I was younger. This information is for my future descendants and also for his sister who is of advanced age.
To assist you in finding any information you may have available I have the following information from his discharge card...

Brondello, Charles A.
Date of Birth Feb 13 1909
Serial number 32 257 203
Grade Private First Class
Date of Induction Mar 13 1942
Place of Induction Fort Dix, NJ
Selective service board number 239
Military Qualifications RI MI 164 2 Apr 1944
Battles and Campaigns in
Central Europe, Rhineland, GO 33 WD 45 as Amended
Date of Discharge Dec 19 1945

My primary focus is the European part of his tour of duty. If possible to trace his unit's progress thru Europe during the war.
I hope to follow in his footsteps and see some of the environment he passed through.

I thank you in advance for any help you can provide.

Sincerly
Joseph Brondello

I found his name in the Canadian book of remembrance and he is listed there also has a headstone in Flanders field and a plaque on a tree in Saskatoon Sask. as a memorial to him any information would be very appreciated. I want to give the information to my dad as he was 5 when my grandpa his dad was killed and it might provide some closure for both him and my granny.
Thanks Cher

Subject: I would like to find some information about my father

Comments: My father Jesse W Triplett served in the US Army in 1942-1945. He was in the Co. A 92nd Signal bn. His serial number was 36717643 PFC. His place of entry into the service was Camp Grant Illinois. He was kitchen help number 590. He traveled to France and Europe. I don't have anything about my father and I would love to just have something. I would like to know about his time in the Army and maybe see a group photo. I saw on his Honorable Discharge that he received some service bars and medals and ribbons. I would love to have something of his. If anyone knows anything about him or can find anything out please let me know. Thank you very much. Geraldine

Subject: WW2 male war correspondent at Berchtesgaden

Comments: I am researching my fathers' war travels specifically when they reached Berchtesgaden. He was believed to have been driving the jeep of a Colonel (or General) and a male war correspondent. He was with the Headquarters Company 3rd Infantry Division but because of an injury he was the driver for the Colonel. I know he was one of the first to reach the Eagle's nest and had to CLIMB because the elevator was not working. His name was Charles Waters Technician Fifth Grade. I am doing some research and trying to find the war correspondent that was with my father when they went up to Berchtesgaden.
This is what I know:
My father's name: T/5 Charles H. Waters, Hq. Co., 3rd Inf. Div.
He was the driver for Maj. Gen. Lucian Truscott when they went up to the Nest but apparently there was a war correspondent that worked for the Los Angeles Times with them as well. I am trying to find the name of the correspondent. If you could be of any help It would be greatly appreciated.

Subject: Brother, PVT William H. Johnson, MIA Korea

Comments:
My Brother PVT William H. Johnson was declared Missing In Action on Dec. 3,1950 at Huksu-Ri Korea he was in Fox Co 7th Infantry Regiment 3rd Infantry Division 2nd Battalion. He was only 18 yrs old and from a small Country town in Indiana named Otisco.

My family and I have been fighting a few battles of our own trying to get answers to our questions and getting nothing but lip service in return. 3 years ago a local newspaper published an article asking for information about next of kin to William Johnson from Clark co. Indiana mia Korea. We contacted the veteran affairs officer who had placed the article all information pertaining to our brother was given, we were then told some numbers did not match it wasn't our brother we were also told there were 3 William Johnson's mia Korea from Clark county Indiana.

Well that's what and that's when I began researching this matter, fact is there is only 1 William Johnson from the entire state of Indiana Mia Korea that's our brother, when this was brought to the veteran affairs officer they could no longer remember why the article was placed. These people are supposed to keep records but we could not even get the records checked, so the search goes on on September 23 of this year(2003)

I was sent an e-mail from VFW Org Washington DC stating the remains of a Johnson from Indiana have been identified but further identification was needed, my family hopes and prays for closure, it's turned over to chief repatriation and recovery Officers the e-mails keep coming and our hopes keep growing, then officer tells us they can not contact the gentleman that sent the e-mails, then we're told he's on vacation, then we're told the gentleman did not state remains from Indiana but was discussing remains from Illinois dating several years back.

It was a mistake we were told, I have the e-mails I know what was in them the gentleman is lying and now I have to find out why. If anyone was at Huksu-Ri Korea on Dec, 3,1950 or think that they might have known my brother please contact me, it is urgent. If anyone knew Glenn Hubenette then it's likely you also knew my brother, Glenn remembers him. Thank You and God Bless
Mary Johnson Smith

Subject: Battle of the Bulge

Comments: My father, Wasil Homyack, was in the 3rd army, cavalry I think.  He was a sgt. and was attached to the Red Cross as an interpreter. He fought in the Battle of the Bulge, was stationed in Belgium, Paris, Iceland.  His basic training was at Ft. Benning, Ga. after he enlisted in 1943.  He received 4 Bronze stars which he never mentioned to me and I would like to know what they were for. One story he told me was that he was ordered to be engineer or brakeman on a train which was to be taken from Belgium to Holland under guard.  If any one has information about any of these, I would really like to know more about my dad when he was in WWII.  He passed away Aug. 18, 2003
