Comments: My question is:
Are there any information web sites that would address my Dad's military affiliation? My Dad is still alive and if gatherings/reunions were on the west coast I might be able to get him there.

Thanks

My Dad: Rawdon Jimmy Winston
DOB 14 July 1920
Marine SN# 308960

Entered Basic Training May 1941. There he did his mandatory 12 weeks training then went to Communications Personnel School for 12 weeks. November 1941 he was assigned to the 2nd Division, 4th Battalion, K Battery 10th
Regiment at Camp Dunlop Brawly. There he stayed and the 3rd (Marine) Division, 4th Battalion, K Battery 10th Regiment was formed at Camp Elliot. In Feb 1942 the 3rd (Marine) division deployed to New Zealand and was assigned Island Security.
The 3rd stayed in New Zealand till June 1942 when it was again deployed to Guadalcanal. There they controlled the Guadaleon islands - Siapan, Tenan, Anawetak and Bouganville. Later they again were deployed to Guam.

My Dad was in Guam until he contacted Malaria and was sent back to the states for medical discharge. After my Dad was sent back to the States the 3rd (Marine) division was sent into Iwo Jima. Was discharged in 1945 as a buck Sgt.

Subject: 5th Army, Hq Battery 4321, AAA AW Battalion, Gun Section 3

Comments:
I am writing this for my dad, Carl W. Siegel. He has pancreatic cancer and only has a couple of months. He is 84 yrs. old and this past year is the first time he really started talking about the war. He doesn't have a lot of time left and is starting to get confused. But if anyone out there remembers him, he'd be thrilled to get a card or a quick note from you saying you remember him. He is deaf in one ear (war injury) so phone calls are kind of difficult. He feels forgotten right now so any remembrance would really up lift his spirits.

He was in WWII: 5th Army (Tech 5). Hq Battery 4321, AAA AW Battalion, Gun Section 3. Campaigns: Tunisian, Naples Foggia, Rome Arno, No. Appenines, Po Valley. He served from 1942-45

He was also in the Korean War: 3rd Div. 15th Inf. Co. A (Able) 1st Bn. He was a M/SG. He served from 1950-54 and then joined the Reserves until 1963.

He remembers he was a replacement for SG. Mills in Korea and he remembers doing patrol with a LT. Cobb along the Imgem(?) River.

Other names he recalls are Rocko from Brooklyn, Johnny Albright and Seth Huntley(?) from Arkansas. I think they are from WWII.

He also remembers a guy named Nick from the Reserves who would stop by the house to visit and always had a handful of candy for us kids. At that time we lived in Hometown, IL.

Any acknowledgment of him would be greatly appreciated. Thank you all.
His daughter,
Mariellen Spiros

Subject: 3rd Division Reunions

Comments: Hello. My name is Melissa Mendise. My father, Joseph I. Mendise served in the Korean War in the 3rd Infantry Division, 7th Regiment, 3rd Battalion Headquarters Co.
My father never spoke of the war or would not really answer any questions until recently. He seems to be very open to getting together now with other Korean War veterans and has even joined a local group. He often has me look up information for him on the internet since he does not have a computer.
I am writing to ask you if there are any reunions being planned. Also, he just showed me a postcard with the ship he was on to get to Korea. It was called the Marine Adder. Do you know where it is or if it is even still around?
I have been unsuccessful in trying to get any information.
Please write back

Subject: Howard B. Fladd

Comments:
First of all, I would like to say thanks to all the veterans who served our country. I am a Chief Petty Officer in the United States Navy (THE WORLD'S FINEST NAVY). I come from a long military family history. I have 4 Uncle's who served in WWII.
I am seeking information concerning my Uncle, PFC Howard B. Fladd. He served with the 109th Infantry Regiment, 28th Infantry Division. He was killed in the battle of the Huertgen Forrest in NOV 44. He is buried in the Ardennes American Cemetery in Neupre, Belgium. I received his report of casualty from the archives in ST. Louis. I am looking for what company/battalion he served in so I can piece together their movements across Europe.
I am also looking for how he was killed. His listing is officially FOD (Finding Of Death). Anyone with information, please contact me. Our family would greatly appreciate it. Thanks.

Comments: My uncle, Pfc John Perry Phillips, Dawson County, Texas was in the 30th infantry regiment of the third infantry division. He was killed at Anzio Beach in 1944. We (my family) and I are preparing a memorial to him and I would love to find out more about him, the battles he fought and his last battle. From letters from him we can see that he was in the Casablanca campaign, and the Atlantic beach head in 1943, the Spanish border at Tirrete, the Tunisia campaign and several other battles. We can not find any of his medals. Is there a way of finding out which medals he should have received. Thanks

Comments:
This is a long shot, but I am trying to find a woman who worked with my grandmother at Ft. Bragg. I don't have much info, but would like to try!!!

The person I am looking for is named Martha and worked in the barracks under a General Cunningham. Her husband was an engineer, and was sent overseas in 1942. They came from Boston.

If anyone has any info on this woman, or if you believe any of this seems even remotely familiar, please email me!! My grandma never got this woman's last name and told me she still regrets it, as they were very close.
Thank you:)

Subject: USO performance at Kassel in 1945

Comments: My name is Rick Hiergesell. Enjoyed your website. The USO performance at Kassel in 1945 caught my attention.
My father-in-law has some pictures of this event. He was about half-way to the stage. He was in the 7th Army and was in Kassel at the end of the war.

The banner over the stage in you photo has the names of the actors and actresses. Right below the names of the actors,
the banner reads 16th Armored Division Band. Research shows this was part of Patton's 3rd Army.

Do you by any chance have the list of all the units/divisions that attended this event. I am still trying to find out the unit that my father-in-law was in.
His name was Pfc. Carl Ray Bailey in the 7th Army, and Bronze Star recipient.
Resource recommendations would be appreciated.
Thanks
Rick Hiergesell
