Comments: My father in-law has begun to share his WWII experience with us. Most all of those he served with that he kept in touch with all these years have passed. He has very recently found out that a John Hass from Deshler, Ohio served for this same group and would very much like to find him. They grew up within 10 miles of each other yet he never knew that he may have been serving alongside him. He would be very grateful to hear from anyone who he may have served with, or who may have knowledge of John Haas.

Subject: Help...PLEASE!!

Comments:
I am desperately seeking someone! Although we ended a friendship on really bad terms my heart misses him dearly. He truly has no idea the extent of the love I feel for him and have felt for him all the days I have known him. There were a thousand things I did wrong to hurt him and if I could, I would take them all back, but I know I can't. So if anyone reads this down on the base of Fort Stewart and if you can by chance relay by word of mouth, please let BRANDON OVERBY know that there is a southern belle by the name of Lauren and her two lovely children that love and adore him and would be be honored to have the pleasure of having him back in their lives. If he can find it in his heart to forgive her, she wants him to know she will love him for all the days of her life. THANKS 770-304-5595 or slbsmith29@yahoo.com or I can be reached at the address above. Someone please find him!

Subject: My Dad: Sgt Rolland L. Hyde, 804 TD Bn, WWII

Comments: I am looking for anyone who served with my father during World War II. He trained at Camp (Fort) Hood, Texas and deployed to England in 1942. His Tank Destroyer unit participated in the landings in North Africa. He told me that they crewed half tracks with 75mm guns mounted in back. Apparently those weapons were not very effective. At some point they were equipped with the M-10 TD, which worked well. His unit then fought in Sicily and Italy. I think they supported the 3rd ID at Naples, Anzio and liberation of Rome. He returned stateside in 1944 serving the last year of the war in the quartermaster corps at Camp White, Oregon where I was born in June 1945. One of his crewmembers was named "Jiggs". I would appreciate hearing form anyone who served with my Dad or in the 804 TD Battalion.

My name is David Jordan. I was born in Allentown, PA and now live in Nazareth, Pa. My uncle, Charles T. Jordan, Jr., in Korea on July 16, 1953. That is all the information I have. My grandfather died and my father still can't talk about it 50 years later.

He was a member of the 15th infantry regiment and the 3rd Infantry Division. During the time he died the battle of Kumsong River Salient was fought. I wonder if he died there.

Any information you can give me about my uncle would be appreciated

Response from Martin Markley:
David, Your uncle, Pfc. Charles T. Jordan, Jr., was a member of B Company 15th Infantry Regiment.
The date of his death would indicate that he was killed at the Kumsong River Salient.
I will forward your inquiry for publication in the newsletters.
If you mail your snail mail address to those on distribution of this email it might aid in getting response.
Best wishes in your search

Subject: S/Sgt Elmer H. Lawing

Comments: As I type this, fifty-nine years ago to the minute C Company of the 30th Infantry, along with the rest of the 1st Battalion, was clinging to a bridgehead on the east bank of a small stream near Colmar France, and my uncle, SSgt Elmer H. Lawing, who was at that moment commanding the first platoon of C Company, had less than an hour to live.
This attack to reduce the Colmar pocket had begun on Jan 22 1945 - the first anniversary of the Anzio landings. It was the coldest winter in a hundred years, and the temperature never got above 14 degrees during this campaign.

I'd be very pleased to hear from anyone who remembers my uncle. Also I wanted to mention that he was posthumously awarded an oak leaf cluster to his Silver Star for his actions on Jan 24, and that his mortal wound entitled him to his fifth oak leaf cluster to his Purple Heart. He also held the Croix de Guerre from the French government. He graduated from Haw Creek High School on May 31, 1943 and by November was in action north of Naples.

I have been very fortunate in the fact I know my father served with the XX Corps from the Desert Training Center in CA, England, Normandy and to the end of the war. The records at NARA were in an area heavily damaged by fire in 1973. Subject: I'm trying to establish what unit Pfc. Larnie Griffith was in.

Comments: Back Ground: A letter written by Pfc. Larnie Griffith written October 01, 1944 was received by his half brother Ralph and Leona Griffith of Mexico, Kentucky in Crittenden County, Kentucky. The letter was found in the estate papers of
Mrs. Ralph (Leona) Griffith. She died in October of 2003. Mrs. Leona is (my spouse's) Karen Kay Stubblefield's aunt.
In the letter he states that some censorship has been lifted and he now can
say where he has been since landing at Loundonderry, England.

The following are the locations in order that he mentioned.
01. Loundonderry, England.
02. North Ireland - Training 8 months.
03. Oran - Landing.
04. Pachon.
05. Fondock, won battle with help of British Sixth Armor.
06. Hill 609, he ask if they had read about 609 in the home news papers.
07. Entered Italy, but not on invasion day, but shortly there after.
08. Spent 3 days unloading.
09. The 3rd Battalioin took San Vittore just below Cassino. (The way it's written
I'm not sure if the 3rd Bat. was his unit or part of).
10. From there the regiment went on to take Mt. Trochio.
11. Early in Feb. we crossed the Rapidan River to Begin the Battle of Cassino,
In the town, & the Radidan Valley & on the heights behind the town.
12. Went to Anzio beachhead, and there played a role in the May breakout.
13. Then headed up route 7 toward Rome with the 1st Armored Div. from Ft. Knox.
14. Rome fell, went over to coast and pushed up route 1 to Rosignano and the
regiment lost about 100 men.
15. Tough Scrap at Lanuvia, in other words Leghorn.
16. Went past Leghorn to the Arno River where we got relieved.
17. Went over to center of Italy around Florence, started fighting again.
18. Fought our way up to the Gothic Line and now we have it broken.

This is where he had gotten to when writing the letter. The rest of the letter was about meeting another soldier friend and asking about family.

If you can help me I certainly would appreicate it so much. I've always been interested in WWII all my life. My father was a skilled laborer, (steam hoistman) and was required to work in the Fluorspar industry in Livingston County, KY during the war.
Fluorspar (Fluorite) was required in making of quality steel and many other important products at the time.
Thank you and best regards,

Froze his feet near then end, and had problems there after including addiction to codine until the late 1950's. Refused to ever use the V.A. General orders 3 November 1953
Number 988

Award of the Distinguished Service Cross {posthumous}

By direction of the President, under the provisions of the act of
Congress approved 9 July 1918 {WD BUL 43, 1918}, pursuant to authority in AR 600-45, the Distinguished Service Cross for extraordinary heroism in action is awarded posthumously in the name of the Commander-In-Chief, Far East to:

Private Albert Sherman, US51178169, United States Army. Private Sherman, a member of an infantry regiment, distinguished himself by extraordinary heroism in action against the enemy in the vicinity of Surang-Ni, Korea.
On the night of 10 June 1953 Private Sherman, a Medical Aidman in an area under intense enemy attack. Learning that a listening post had been hit by enemy artillery, Private Sherman unhesitatingly rushed 150 yards through the heavy artillery, mortar, and small arms barrage to the forward position.

While administering emergency first aid to a wounded man in the listening post, Private Sherman seriously injured by a shell
burst. Completely disregarding his own wounds, Private Sherman continued to render aid to the casualty and then carried him to a bunker on the main line of resistance. Noticing another wounded man in a nearby position, Private Sherman ignored the proximity of the enemy, moved to the side of casualty and administered emergency treatment.

Private Sherman was killed by a group of enemy infantrymen who attacked him while he was aiding his wounded comrade. The extraordinary heroism exhibited by Private Sherman on this occasion reflects great credit on himself and is in keeping with the finest traditions of the military service. Entered the Federal service from New York

Comments: My father 2nd Lt. Ralph Clark, 15th Infantry, F Company, 3rd Infantry Division never spoke about the war or Outpost Harry. Whenever asked he would respond "You don't want to hear about it." In my search to know what his experiences were while serving in Korea. He was in a survivor of Outpost Harry. I welcome any emails from anyone that remembers my father

Subject: PFC Casimir Jablonowski

Comments: I search information about the PFC Casimir Jablonowski who was killed in action the 6th January 1945. He may be killed during the Alsace campaign (maybe in the village of Saint Hippolyte), in the Ribeauvillé area (not far from Colmar) and his body was repatriated in April 1948 in Cleveland.
Have you got information about the division and the regiment of this soldier (maybe 3rd or 36th infantry division), and the place where he was killed ? I also search accuracy about the place he was buried in United States the 28th April 1948.
I'm very interested if you have other piece of information about this soldier.
Do you know if other soldiers were killed in the village of Saint Hippolyte ?
If you have no information, can you tell me where I can make enquiries in order to find answers to these questions ?

I hope you can help me
Thanks a lot and best regards from France
