I am looking for information about the "battle patrols" created into each

It seems that the battle patrols soldiers wore a distinctive painted badge at

These distinctive badges were playing cards symbols (heart...).
Do know something about that ? I am searching information about the previous
history of this practice.
I would be very grateful if you can help me.

Esquiro as carrying his rope with him to practice lassoing. Esquiro also saved

up in Stalags 7A & 3B before being released. He was debriefed in camp Lucky
Strike before being returned home to New Jersey (Fort Dix) at the end of the
war. All of his military records were lost in the fire. He spoke very little
of his war time experiences which I believe were very painful. He passed away

a POW from August, 1944 through the end of the war. Gust was assigned to a
different outfit after D-Day and was captured near Mortrain, France.
Gust told me they woke one morning to find the prison camp abandoned. They
simply walked out (the ones that could). He came across an older Nazi who
threw his hands up and surrendered his pistol. Gust took the pistol and his
prisoner (ironic) and started walking. In a few hours they stumbled upon
Allied troops.
Conditions in Stalag 7B must have been brutal. My uncle usually weighed
about 160lbs. He weighed 85lbs when he was shipped home.
Anyone who knew my uncle please contact me. My uncle lost his discharge papers
in a home fire and his military record in the St. Louis fire.
We are compiling his service record from other documents, including statements
by soldiers that knew him. Thanks.

Subject: Friends and fellow soldiers
Comments: My father, Ralph P. Molina died 3/10/04. He was in the 3rd Infantry
Division from Casablanca all the way through to the Rhineland. His honorable
discharge identified his last military rank was as a technician sergeant. He
recalled Audie Murphy to his sons as well as Anzio, muddy Italy, and other
places. He recalled to us the North Africa campaigns and the division's bout
with jaundice. He explained what his "BAR" meant, and his first attempt to
shoot down a fighter plane with his Thompson, which landed him on his back. He
received a Bronze Star but always said that the fellows he served with all
deserved Silver Stars and Medals of Honor for the fight they took to the
enemy.
He also recalled much later in the War, being ordered to
drop weapons so the infantry could hand carry gasoline to Patton's tanks when
Patton pushed the tanks further than his fuel supplies would last. He recalls
that once filled the tanks beat a fast retreat leaving the mostly unarmed
infantry to fend for themselves. War is Hell, and sometimes it came from
unexpected sources.
My father lived the rest of his life honorably and with the
distinction in raising four sons and two daughters and six grandchildren. If
anyone has personal knowledge or pictures of my father in the 3rd Infantry
Division I would appreciate hearing from you. For those of us who benefited
from the freedoms earned by the sacrifices of all those who served in the 3rd
Infantry Division during the Second World War, God Bless each of you and our
greatest admiration and thanks.

member of the Society of the 3rd Infantry Division.

Comments: Have been working on a set of books for several years on our vets of
WW's 1, 2, Korea and 'Nam, from Sussex County, New Jersey, and was hoping I
could ask for some info. 2 we'd unfortunately lost, who were with the 3rd ID
in WW2, were Everett Kimble, on Feb 3rd 1945, in Germany, and Riley McDole
Jr., in Italy, on Nov 7th 1943. Both were probably with the 7th Rgt. Are there
any good sources giving locations of unit actions at those times? Perhaps
anyone out there with recollections of them or of those battles? Am new to
computers and regret I don't have an E-Mail address. Will be glad to reimburse
postage or similar costs. Thanks very much for any info.

Subject: 601st Tank Destroyer Battalion Crew Members
Comments:
ROTM association and myself, have another project in HOLTZWIHR. When Audie
MURPHY was wounded by the Germans on January 25 1945. there were several
American tanks destroyer.
I found this text on a website :
Then the rear tank destroyer was hit by an 88mm shell that pierced its thin
armor and killed the commander and gunner. The surviving crew members scurried
out and retreated into the woods. I'm looking for the crew members names.
Undaunted, the crew in the lead tank destroyer, after surviving several close
calls, mounted an attack on its own. Staff Sergeant Joseph Tardiff and
Corporal Robert Hines simultaneously blazed away with .50- and .30-caliber
machine guns, cutting down the oncoming enemy infantrymen.
Suddenly, however, the crew lost control of the tank
destroyer when they tried to maneuver into a better firing position. The
vehicle slid off the road and into a drainage ditch, leaving its main gun at a
useless angle that prevented it from being trained on the enemy. Stuck fast in
the ditch, the tank destroyer became a sitting duck for German fire. The crew
climbed out and hastily retreated to the forest.
Two M10 tank destroyers from Lt. Col. Walter E. Tardy's 601st Tank Destroyer
Battalion arrived just in time to support.
********************************************************************
I would like to know the names of the crew members and especially the
commander and the gunner who were killed in action in the rear tank.
If anybody can help me, it would be great! Thanks
Hope to see you in FRANCE in August 2004. I think several Cities in the East
have planned a schedule ( ceremonies, lunches, ...) to welcome you. Tomorrow I
will go to BESANCON for the ceremonies, I will prepare the activities with
Michel MARLIN.
TAKE CARE AND GOD BLESS YOU!!

above the door that reads: 3rd PLATOON CO. C 83rd INF. TNG. BN. I think he
served in 1943 but that is all I have on him. I am trying to get some
