Comments: I am secretly searching for any information on my mother's
parents and any other children they may have had. She was born Shirley (no
middle name) Williams, June 30, 1953 at Riverside Hospital in Newport
News. What a case worker Mrs. Todd told my grandparents who adopted her is
that her father was stationed at Fort Eustis and was a handsome tall
blonde man from New York who never knew of the pregnancy and birth. Her
mother's husband was in jail, and once he found out insisted that she get
rid of the baby before he was released. Her mother and father were married
on October 4, 1951. We are pretty sure her mother lived in Newport News,
then referred to as Norfolk County. Albert Whitehurst was the lawyer that
handled the adoption case for my grandparents, Gladys Murlene Taylor and
Lewis Edmond Taylor. My grandparents later adopted another baby girl,
Kathy Cartwright, and had one son, Michael Lewis Taylor.
However, years ago my mother obtained paperwork from the adoption agency
that had all names, addresses, or any "confidential" information cut out
with scissors. The paperwork told a story that her father was from North
Carolina and that she had one older brother, which my grandparents knew
nothing about. She was able to find that it was Virginia Department of
Public Welfare Case #12219 or 11845, Volume 1953 Cert. 1606, with a
brother born in March 1952. Naturally we aren't sure what story is
correct, or if there are any other siblings or not. Whoever her parents
were knew how to cover up their tracks, or perhaps the Army found out that
her father had an illegitimate child. This has been frustrating for years,
and I am now 26 and would like to know more about myself and anything
about my mother's birth family. Please contact me if you have any
information. |

Subject: 39th Field Artillery B Battery Korea
Comments: Looking for comrades. I was in the B Btry 39th FA BN. I was a FO
with G Co 4 mos & than E Co 5 mos. I was on Item OP the last 5mos.,almost
the whole time. I stayed on it for 30 days one time. I can recall a lot of
bad times. I had a nightmare & woke up in the trench beside a head that a
round had uncovered. We were under attacked & I had to call defensive
fire, but I got no answer on my radio, I kept calling & a few min later
the rounds came. FDC picked me up, but I couldn't receive them. You never
saw a happier bunch of men, including me, when the rounds lit up around
the hill. Early the next morning that radio went in for repairs. I am
still thanking the head man upstairs that I made it back without a
scratch. I served several more tours in Korea, but in the signal corps.
God bless all that served time over there & any other war zone. Thank you.

Comments: He died sometime near the first week of March.1945 in

refer to him as "doc" several times. He is my Uncle and I am doing
research for the family tree. I am the last Fleming male, besides my
two sons. There will not be any grand children. I have been told I
have only 3-5 yrs to live at the max. So I would like to get it
wrapped while I still can. I had heard many yrs ago that he was
trying to get some GI's out of a building and it was hit killing
him. His unit was called The Old Gray bonnet Div. because of the
patch they wore. He was born in Shamokin, Pa. and had trained at
several places in the US before shipping over and was wounded on D
Day, sent back to England and then shipped back to Germany when he
healed. That is all I know.

Subject: Winfrey Lavon Drury
Comments: Looking for information about my Grand father, what unit
he was in. All I have are his service dates, service number, where
he joined the Army, where he was separated from the Army (Camp
Stewart GA) and his service number. Any assistance would be
appreciated. His name is Winfrey Lavon Drury from Lawrenceburg
Kentucky.

Name: Ralph Deyo
E-mail: Rotor-head@msn.com
Subject: WW II History
Comments: I have been successful with search in this forum before and will
go for another success I hope. My father Ralph F. Deyo was a 1st Sgt in
Company A, 1st Battalion, 15th Infantry Regiment during Anzio and Dragoon.
I have a single page excerpt of the company history and have been trying
to locate the entire document for about 2 years without success. If anyone
is able to provide either a hard copy or electronic copy I would be
extremely appreciative of receiving a copy.
I also wish to thank Leon Lebowitz, for the excerpt and details he kept as
company clerk. Unfortunately I believe he may have joined my father as he
no longer responds to emails.
Thank you.
Ralph M. Deyo
