His name, Albert O. Junkins from Maine, although then he would have

he was blown off an LST during the invasion of Southern France (hit
by a rocket from a German plane). I am looking for anyone that may
have known him or served anywhere he did.
He never talked about any of it much and I never knew he was 5th

War (1950-1951) by Robert Channon
Comments: I am searching for a book, The Cold Steel Third: Third
Airborne Ranger Company Korean War (1950-1951) by Robert Channon.
This book is apparently out of print and very hard to get. I want it
because my daddy served with the 3rd Rangers in Korea. He has been
dead 29 years. Just about everyone that I know who knew him in the
Army is dead, too. I am hoping that perhaps this book can shed some
light on what he did in Korea. I know that the this war left
lifetime scars on my daddy for the hardships he endured as well as
the kind of fighting he had to do. He told me some of his stories. I
am now trying to plot his journey through Korea.
Thank you,

Subject: George and Frank Cwienk
Comments: I am looking for any information on George Cwienk and
Frank Cwienk Jr. They were brothers that served together. The family
story is that my Great Grandmother, upset from not hearing from
George, had her congressman put them together so that Frank would
write for both. I know that they both entered in Phila PA in 1942,
George a resident of Alaska and Frank a resident of Pennsylvania per
their MEPS paperwork. I also know that they sailed back to the US on
the Queen Elizabeth on 9 Oct 45 with the 70th Infantry Division. I
have their shipping papers and after searching, found that they were
not members of that unit but were shipped with them due to high
points. Frank used to speak of how miserable he was in Italy not
liking pasta, onions or garlic. I am looking for any information on
their units or actions. Thank you |

Comments: Hi
My Uncle John was in the 1stBN, 15th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Division
during World War II. He was killed in action May24, 1944 at Anzio
during the breakout to Rome. He didn't have any immediate family. I
would really like to know what COMPANY he serviced with. I would
like to know more about Uncle John. I am retired and working on the
family genealogy. My oldest brother is named after him. My father
has died a few years ago and he didn't have any information about
what company Uncle John serviced with or how he was killed.
I wrote to National Military Records in St. Louis, but the records
were destroyed in the fire of 1973. I ran across your web site and
thought you may know something or know where to look.
Any information about him would be appreciated.
Thanks
Webmaster's Note: Pvt John
Farrell is listed as a member of the 15th Infantry Regiment in the
book "History of the 3rd Infantry Division in WWII" on page 486.
This book has the time line of the Anzio battles and you might get

place.

Comments: My Father had one of the longest records fighting in WWII
in the Third Army / 15 Infantry, 2nd Battalion, Company G. Can you
send more info please?
Webmaster's Note: Cpl John
Kindlarski HQ Co, 2nd BN, 15 Infantry Regiment was awarded the
Bronze Star for action at Mt Casema, Italy Nov. 8, 1943.
From the
book, "History of the 3rd Infantry Division in WWII" on page 416.
“Daughter states name is a typographical error in the book.” And the
mountain name error as well.
Webmaster's Note II:
JOE KINDLARSKI was awarded the Bronze Star for service at Mt.
Cesima, Italy, 9 November 1943.
Joe Kindlarski’s military bravery is best described in the
December 9, 1944 letter awarding him the Bronze Star Medal for
meritorious achievement in actual combat:
“On the night of 8 November 1943, at Mt. Cesima, Italy, Corporal
Kindlarski volunteered to lead a pack train loaded with badly
needed ammunition seven miles through a hazardous enemy
artillery concentration to the forward companies which had
repulsed four enemy counterattacks. At no time was Corporal
Kindlarski more than 400 yards away from the enemy, but despite
the relentless hail of shell fragments that narrowly missed him,
and on several occasions struck the ammunition boxes carried by
the mules, he made his way to the companies and delivered the
sorely needed ammunition.”
