The 2nd is a local (Salt Lake City) man who recently died, named Wendell D. Leavitt. Born in 1915 and served as a 2nd Lt with the 3rd Infantry in Europe.

Comments: I am looking for information about my grandfather Sgt Marshall Kinsley, (KIA) Apr 17, 1945. 180th Infantry 45th Division, US Army. I would also like to find information on the battles his unit was involved in. His records were destroyed in the fire at the National Archives. So quite a bit of information was lost. I have bits and pieces of information including at bit from a battle in Anzio that I received before my grandmother died, but that was mostly insurance papers and burial information. Any books or any other information that can be recommended would be greatly appreciated.

Comments: Good day. I am a VFW and American Legion Service Officer. I have a client, James Robert Harvey, DOB: 6/30/34, RA13484425 who served with the 519th AAA Battalion during the Korean War. I am working on his VA Claim. As you probably know, Army and Air Force records from WW2 and the Korean War were burned in the fire at St. Louis in 1973.

I am looking for anyone or any documents which would provide information on his Purple Heart. His DD-214 just gives the Purple Heart. Can you refer me to a good source?

I just wanted to verify that I am at the correct web site to learn about his experiences during WW II. My father died in 1959 but I do remember that he was very proud of his military service. Ft Benning's website is not active as of this date but can be checked out at https://www.benning.army.mil/infantry/ . The Fort Stewart online newspaper, "The Frontline Online" is probably the best source of news about the 3ID in Iraq and can be reached at http://www.stewart.army.mil/ima/frontlineonline/imafrontline.old.asp

Comments: I'm at my last line of hope on trying to find out what my grandfather did in World War Two. I was going through some of his old things and I came across a 3rd ID arm patch. On his discharge papers he fought everywhere that the 3rd ID fought. One thing confuses me, his papers say that he served with the 214th AAA Gun Battalion Battery "D". I don't know if this was an attached unit or what. I honestly can't find anything on this battalion. The only thing I found was people posting that they had family that served in the same thing, that's all. His name was Herman Joseph Buckner. I believe he was a private or private first class. I have tried looking around my house, which used to be his, for anything and I find nothing. I'm hoping that you might be able to tell me what I am looking for or at least send me in the right direction. He passed before I ever showed interest in WWII and no one close to him ever really talked about it, so information is in a small dose from my family. I thank you for taking the time to read this and possible help.
