REQUEST #4141
Name: Jessica Briand
E-mail: jessebriand@yahoo.com
Subject: Private William Christensen
Comments: I am the grand daughter of Private William Christensen.
Private Christensen served in the 30th Infantry Regiment, 3rd
Infantry Division, his service number is 42061010, he died November
8, 1944 and received a purple heart. His is buried in France at the
Epinal American Cemetery. This is all I know about my grandfather
from the research I have done thus far. My father William Taft
Christensen, II never knew him either because he was killed before
my father was born. I would like to know anything and everything I
can about my grandfather. I hope you can help me or maybe someone
knows who he was and can tell me. I would appreciate any
information. Thank you.
Very truly yours,
Jessica Briand, f/k/a Jessica Christensen |

Subject: Looking for a book
My father in law served during the Korean War, 1952. Sergio Miranda,
from Puerto Rico. I would like to know where can I find a book from
the 3rd Infantry Division L-Company. He won a price, instead of
getting a new Cadillac he opted for the cash. In the book, the
commanding general is presenting him the money. He also received a
Bronze Star Medal. Any suggestions where to look?

states: Headquarters Company 3D Military Government Regiment.
Does the 3D mean Third Infantry Division or Third Army? It mentions

New York in 1942, training at Fort Bragg, NC, served in Europe from
March 1945 to June 1946, and discharged at Fort Dix, New Jersey.

Subject: Matthew Hare---Sergeant in the Third Infantry during WW2
Comments: I'm looking for any information about my father Matthew
Hare who was a sergeant in the third infantry during WW2.
Unfortunately he has passed away and would never talk about his war
record. I know that he was in the Battle of the Bulge and also the
invasion of Northern Germany. Any info provided would be greatly
appreciated. Thank you.
Webmaster's Note: Matthew Hare's name could not be found in the book
"History of the 3rd Infantry Division, in WWII". If Sgt Hare was at
the Battle of the Bulge, he probably was in the
3rd Armored Division
not the 3rd Infantry Division which was in Southern France at that
time.
The
3rd Infantry Regiment
(known as the "Old Guard) which is also confused with the 3rd
Infantry Division is currently the regiment that is stationed at the
Tomb of the Unknowns at Arlington National Cemetery. Click on their
