Subject: 263rd 66th Black Panther Division
Comments: I am trying figure out the travel route of my uncle Pfc
Lloyd E McCray of World War II. We have letters from him being in
Italy in august of 1944 and killed in France in Dec of 1944. But the
records show the Panthers never even left the New York Harbor until
Xmas of 1944, He had to go to England and Italy and finally France,
but that is not the history of a 66th Black Panther. I see where the
262nd and the 264th were on the Leopoldville ship that sunk. But I
can't find anything on the 263rd of the 66th Black Panther Division.
His letters have three addresses: First one is (Co L 263rd Inf. from
USA 1943) next is (558th Repl. Co 113th Bn. from Italy Sept 1944)
and the last letter is ( Co E 15th Inf. 3rd Div from Somewhere in
France dec 1944)His AN is 33576345 |

Division, 703 rd Ordnance Light Maintenance from 1942-1946; and saw
action from N. Africa thru France, Italy, Sicily, Anzio, Germany,
Austria, etc. This picture is all I have of him-no records of awards
or medals he may have earned. He may have gone by the nickname of
"Tex" though he was from Calvin, PA. He played guitar and was a
country music/western swing/horse whisperer so to speak. Not easy to
forget. He certainly would have had many friends.
He died at home in March 1983. I am one of 6 surviving children and
living in Nashville, TN

I am trying to get information on my grandfather's Military Service
with the 3rd Infantry, Papaya Division. His name was James Leon
Wright and I know that most of the records for his Active Duty were
destroyed in a warehouse fire. I know that he fought in Hallandia,
New Guinea and that he contracted malaria but that is all that I
know. Any information that you could provide, even if is just
general info regarding his infantry/division would be greatly
appreciated! Thank you for providing a link to the past for all of
us who never went through the war but who feel that it is so
critical to keep these memories alive!

Melissa,
It appears that your grandfather was probably in the 33rd Infantry
Division not the 3rd. Best wishes in your search. Try this website:

Name: Damien Horn.
Email:
damienhorn@jerseymail.co.ukSubject: 3rd Infantry Uniform
Comments: I have just found your fantastic website for the 3rd
Infantry Society and I think it is superb. I live on the Island of
Jersey in the Channel Islands, U.K. and am a member of a small group
of people who are interested in the 3rd Infantry and at the various
fetes and military vehicle events on the Island we portray the 3rd
infantry as it is today in Iraq. We have 2 hummers and lots of
equipment as well as firearms that are currently being used by your
army today.
My request I guess is a little cheeky, but of all the group I am the
only one who is dressed like the poor relation. All the other guys
are 5 foot and regular build and therefore are able to find original
used uniform with insignia to fit, where as I am 6 foot six with a
54 inch chest. This means that any item of military clothing is
always far too small and short for me as I need a 2 or 3xl long.
Would you know any ex service men of this size who may be able to
help smarten me up. We fly the flag for the 3rd infantry over here
and albeit the money we raise for charity goes to ex-English
servicemen we are keen to promote the American army as well. If you
were able to offer any help in acquiring me a uniform I would be
eternally grateful, I did not realize that I would find it such a
job to find something to fit.
Waiting and hoping that you can help,
All the best,
Damien Horn |

Subject: Kitzingen Germany
Comments: I spent three years in the US Army from July 1861 to June
1964. During the Cuban Crisis, I was stationed in Kitzingen under
1st Rocket Howitzer Battalion, Third Infantry Division as a nuclear
weapon provider under Honest John Rockets and 8 inch Howitzers. I
became ill in Germany (Meningo Encephalitis) which caused me to lose
remembering my past. As I was re-educated I recaptured a lot but
never had the opportunity to review my tour in Kitzingen. I would
appreciate your referring me to any source on this matter. Thank
you.

Comments: My name is William C. Weicht III. Ellis R. Weicht is my
3rd cousin. I was wondering how can I obtain a picture of his
headstone. I wish I could go to France and see it for myself but my
finances won't permit it. Whenever I meet other people with our last
name I know I am related to them if they mention Ellis' name. He is
an important person in our family tree.
Thanks for any help,

Subject: 663rd Ordinance Co
Comments: I served in the 663rd Ordinance Company in Vilseck,
Germany from 1959 to 1962. I recently found a web page for Rose
Barracks in Vilseck and noted the units stationed there. Missing was
663 Ord Co. I was wondering what happened to the unit. Now 529th Ord
Battalion is stationed there, and if my memory serves me, the 663
was subordinate to the 529 which was at that time stationed in
Mannheim, Germany. Do you have any records of the current status of
the 663rd Ord Co?
My wife and I were in Germany last fall and I tried to get onto the
Post to visit my old haunts, but not allowed due to stricter
security and no military sponsor. Too bad. We were there about 12
years ago when visiting the compound plus the Grafenwohr post were
allowed. |
