Subject: Need help on VA disability question
Comments: Dear sir, I am sorry to intrude on your very busy
schedule, but just happen to run across your fantastic site! I am an
what you might call an Army service connected chief warrant officer
who has never been paid for what I thought I was going to get at the
end, but that is another story and what I am asking from you as
another question at that as follows: Do you know of a VA regulation
that permits a veteran to file his/her the opportunity pertaining to
non-service VA disability ratings (in my case I have shown the VA
since 2001 that my bi-lateral knees have gone to the point that they
may need replacement down the road and am now wearing knee braces on
both of them)! While on active and Reserve duty I was in an MOS that
had me always using my knees, back, shoulders etc. I have finally
gotten compensation for my back and shoulder after 28-grueling years
after fighting the fight being it seem that several of the local
service organizations that I originally used were not gone to put
enough effort into my case so it took myself and family to hang in
there even though I too was finally awarded PTSD after several
conflicts. I understand that what I am looking for might be under
Chapter 38, Part 17. anything that you can suggest will be of use
being my appeal for this is due in two-weeks and I am one not to let
this go being I know for a fact this was all from my service even
though I did not complain much of it then being I was for the most
part concentrating on my spine because I know how the VA works at
times! Your assistance in this very important matter would be most
appreciated! Sincerely yours, John |

Subject: Harry Arnold Turner
Comments: I am looking for any information on my father, Harry "Sam"
Arnold Turner. I have been told that his file was among those
destroyed in the fire in St. Louis. I have a dairy he kept while
overseas & it's the only source I have for names, dates, etc. He had
to destroy the pages he had written on when taken prisoner by the
Germans in March of 1945 & I'm mainly left with information after
that point. Entered the army in July of 1943 in Des Moines, IA. He
was waiting for bombardier training in the Air Corp when all those
not already trained were sent to the ground forces. He spent time in
Camp Allen, CA & in Amarillo, TX & Phoenix, AZ, (Luke Field?). Was
stationed in Brownsville, TX & was in the 13th Armored Division. My
father says he was a bazooka man in the Company E 3rd Division. His
diary states that he was among those captured by the Germans on
March 15,1945, after his unit "took the town" (Utweiler??). Put in
charge of a compound in German POW camp in Scottsbluff, NE after
returning to the US. I have a picture of him & two men & on the back
of the photo he wrote "2nd Compound Boys, Woody & Susie". Stated
that Susie was from Minnesota, born in Volga City, graduate of U of
Minn with a degree in Engineering. I am open to any & all
information. I don't have a specific date of discharge. Thank you! |

Comments: Last week I went to visit my Grandfather for his 90th
Birthday and introduce him and my grandmother (89) to their
great-granddaughter. I got to talk to them about their past and the
war. I heard a few stories, though my grandfather only says things
like "not something I ever want to do again" when discussion of the
war comes up, unless prodded by my grandmother. While there, my
grandmother gave me a 50-page letter my grandfather wrote to her
while overseas, basically a journal of the time he was there.
Reading the letter, I did some searches of places, people, and
events mentioned in his letter, which led me here.
Is there anyone else out there who was in this company or regiment
at the time (or sons, daughters, grandchildren)? He started in
Africa about the time the Allies took it, then landed on Sicily on
July 10. I would love to hear any stories, etc. from anyone who knew
him or shared experiences. I'll withhold his name until I hear from
someone. He was hit with an 88mm round after 37 days in Sicily and
spent the next 3 months in various hospitals. They still didn't send
him home till after the war was over. |

Subject: Clyde R. Drumheller
Comments: I would like to confirm if my dad fought in the 3rd
Infantry Division in WWII. I know he fought at Anzio Beachhead,

having served with Audie Murphy. In addition to confirming he was in
3rd Infantry Division, I'd like to know if anyone remembers him.
His name was Clyde R. Drumheller, from Pennsylvania. Thanks, Dean
