FORT STEWART, Ga. – More than 300 3rd Infantry Division veterans come to
Savannah this weekend for the 85th Annual Society of the 3rd Infantry
Division Reunion August 27 – 31. Marne veterans attending will be from
World War II, the Korean War, the Vietnam War, Operation Shield/Storm and
Operation Iraqi Freedom.
Major General William G. Webster, Commanding General, 3rd Infantry
Division, welcomes the group at the President’s Reception Friday Night, 6
p.m. The Division Chief of Staff, Colonel Glenn L. Burch, and Marne
Soldiers present an Infantry Symposium Saturday, 1-4 p.m., which includes
a weapons demonstration, and a State of the Division briefing.
Saturday night, the Division Command Sgt. Major, William M. Grant, is the
guest speaker at the 7th Infantry Regiment Association Banquet (at the
DeSoto Hilton), 6 p.m. A tour of Fort Stewart is the highlight of Sunday’s
agenda. The tour includes a helicopter insertion demonstration and
infantry combatives demonstration, 9:30 – 11 a.m.
The demonstrations are followed by brunch and the unveiling of the
official 3rd Inf. Div. print by artist James Dietz, “The Rock of the
Marne…Tigris and Euphrates,” 11:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. The artist will be on
hand to sign prints. A 7th Infantry Regiment Monument Dedication Ceremony,
follows at 2 p.m.
Monday morning the ladies have a brunch, 10:30 a.m. Guest speaker is Sonny
Dixon. Monday night, Colonel Karl R. Horst, Assistant Division Commander –
Maneuver, 3rd Inf. Division is the guest speaker at the Dinner Banquet, 6
p.m. The reunion concludes Tuesday with the Memorial Breakfast, 8 a.m.
