Introducing Society's new "Watch" Editor-
Cath Bacon

Col Catherine (Cath) Bacon, USAF (Ret) is the author of Mentoring in the Military, a new book projected for publication this year. Recently retired from the military, she served over 30 years as a modern pioneer in aircraft maintenance, air operations, and command and control— functional areas that have only become open to women during Cath’s career. She is a passionate mentor and a prolific lecturer, writer, and facilitator of leadership development. She has participated in and designed and led numerous leadership conferences, seminars and offsite
leadership events. Currently, she is a private consultant and CEO of Blue Eagle 1 Enterprises, based in Hampton, Virginia.
I attended her retirement ceremony and it was obvious that Cath was going to be missed. In addition to the level of officers you’d expect to see at a retirement ceremony for a full colonel, I saw lower ranking enlisted men and women. Having only attained the rank of SP5 myself, I felt comfortable around Cath, except for the fact that she is taller and much more slender than I am that makes me want to binge on chocolate cake! Her family is very supportive and she has her mother’s high energy level.

Scholarship Foundation, Inc. Purpose

The purpose of the Society of the 3rd Infantry Division Scholarship Foundation, Inc. is to provide college and vocational scholarships/student aid to the children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren, including those by adoption, of Society of the 3rd Infantry Division Life, Regular Annual, and direct-descendent Associate* members in good standing, and to any child or grandchild or un-remarried spouse of a 3rd Infantry Division veteran who was Killed In Action while on active duty with the 3rd Infantry Division.

Scholarship/student aid awards granted are applied toward the applicant’s college or vocational school education and will be paid directly to the winning applicant’s account at the accredited school of his/her choice. Applicants must re-apply for scholarship benefits each year while in school. Awards are not made for graduate school degree programs.

* Direct-descendent Associate Members include the following relationships to a Society of the 3rd Infantry Division sponsor, whether or not the sponsor is living: wife or husband, son or daughter, grandson or granddaughter, great grandchildren.
