bh57aaaa.jpg This 380mm artillery
piece, the Anzio Express, captured near Monte Cassino. The Germans had two
large railway guns which made the GI's miserable on Anzio, the Anzio Express
and Anzio Annie (who was no lady). The Nazi's fled so quickly that they left
their artillery, to be captured by the Allies. |

Two Photos From D. Smith:
While in the US Army in 1971, I took a couple of pics of the gun while stationed at Aberdeen Proving Grounds MD. I have attached
pictures which may interest or be of use to you....one
of the gun's projectiles on the deck of the rail gun near the breech. Note the
rifling on the OUTSIDE of the round. Incidentally, I was assigned to the 3rd Inf Div from 71-74. 3rd MP Co, 1st Plt, Schweinfurt. My e-mail address is from
the radio call sign of the MP Station at the Div HQ in Wuerzburg,
PaganOutlaw. Thanks again, D. Smith

The American 240 mm
Big Gun.

1bh06bb.jpg
The most common
words heard around this big gun were,
"Huh, What did you say?, Come Again,
and Where's the cotton for my ears?"
The photo on the bottom is a 155mm "Long Tom". The incredible range and
accuracy of this gun made it popular, as it could punch through tanks and
any buildings, even skyscrapers and
Cancun hotels! |
